Take a look at the pictures in post #29 of this thread. I have my V1 pretty much right next to the Safety Sense "box" and haven't had any issues.

Also, those of you purchasing SD cards for you dash cams, it's worth it to get a "high endurance" version. SD cards can only be overwritten so many times before they fail, and dash cams are constantly overwriting old footage once they fill up. High endurance cards can take a lot more overwrites before they fail, so spend the extra $10-$15 and save yourself from having to replace a standard card.

 

wow they've done a bunch of revisions, that one looks nice. and still totally affordable! I have two A129s in separate vehicles and they have been completely trouble / fuss free for 12 months. Where did you put rear one, can you just stick it on the rear passenger side glass?

 

I'm looking at the BlackVue 750 or 900 with both front and rear facing cameras. My concern is how I mount the rear camera when I have a CrewMax where the full window rolls down. Is there an alternate place to place it on the headliner? I'd like to hear if anyone has come across this issue.

Looking to get the same one. Saw your video. How did mount and route for the campershell?

 

I used a 50ft cable and split loom. Ran thru the rubber grommet, under the cabin, and then ran it back into the bed. The camera is mounted to the rear glass door with double sided tape that came with the camera.


There is a rubber grommet in this area to get the cable back inside.

 

Some jackass in our neighborhood started vandalizing cars and homes with paint and stickers. Silver metallic paint splattered all over the rear fender and bed.

Just ordered the Thinkware F800 Pro 2 Channel. Should be here in a few days and ill update with how it works out.

 

Installed the front facing camera last night with a hardwire kit (Because parking mode is a must for me and need the camera always on). Wires are tucked against the rear-view mirror sensor plastic and then tucked into the headliner. Practically zero visible wire.

Im a wiring n00b, havent done much with fuses in the past so I was a bit hesitant at first but turned out to be pretty easy. Had to run to the auto parts store for some add-a-fuse kits and a voltage reader. Pop some plastic, hide your wire, some minor wire crimping and then just a matter of finding a fuse that always has power going to it and one that doesnt.

So far it seems to be working. Parking mode was enabled throughout the night and got 5 alerts when I got in the truck this morning. Ill be wiring up the rear facing camera tonight.

 

keep me posted, I'm still thinking of getting a 2 channel, BlackVue or Thinkware. or even the Garmin 55.

So I installed the rear view camera a few days ago, super easy. Popped a few plastics, ran the cable to the back, mounted with 3M 'tape' to the weather liner of the back window so the window can still roll all the way down. There was a lot of excess cable, I just bunched it up and stored it behind the pillar plastics.

I gotta say Im really happy with the product and how it turned out so far.

If parking mode is important to you, then I highly recommend the Thinkware F800 Pro. Only downside so far is that the Cloud functions arent great. You have to be close enough to the unit to have a direct wifi connection to make config changes or wirelessly view video.

 

Plan to purchase a dash cam, what's new for 2019? Any insight or recommendations appreciated.

 

Do you have any parameters? Do you need front and back video? Is parking mode important to you? Do you have a budget in mind?

 

Plan is for the front but if there are cam units with expansion then later the rear. Parking mode not a requirement. Budget is $300.

 

If you only need front and parking mode isnt important, people have really liked the Garmin. If you want the ability to add a rear later, Garmin wont work, might want to look at anything Thinkware as all of their products allow for an optional rear cam that can be added later. F200 for more of a 'budget' cam that still has parking mode but isnt as intuitive as the f800

I'm getting a front camera, but also want a rear camera that records on the same unit. Is there a way to tie into the existing backup camera and use the same way you would with an aftermarket one?

 

Thinkware is one of the highest rated dashcams. They started out being popular in Europe years ago. I have 2 of the X550 models and never any issues.

 

did you buy the NEO battery that was mentioned earlier in this thread? Wondering if it pulls on the main battery too much if i leave it in parking mode overnight or for multiple days (like at the airport)

 

I did not purchase the extra battery. I just hardwired to the fuse box with an add a fuse kit. I have left it sitting 2 days without issue. There are safety settings that will turn off the cam if it drains too much of your battery.

I'm running a Blackvue DR590 2ch system. Almost 2yrs now with no issues in the San Antonio TX summers. If parking mode is important to you, there are only 5 manufacturers that offer true buffered parking mode. Blackvue, blacksys, Goluk, thinkware and Garmin (not all of them)
