Hey guys I wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on this for me. I've had my truck for less than 2 weeks and there is a total of 420 miles on it. I have done nothing to the truck other than tinting the windows. This morning when I hopped in the truck, I noticed that my programmed garage door button wouldn't work, no big deal, I'll look at it when i get home. 100 feet down the road I get 2 messages that pop up on the dashboard.

Pre Collision malfunction and a Lane Departure Malfunction "Visit Dealer". Now I've seen a few other posts about this on different forums and it seems like it could be a common problem. I searched my VIN to see if there were any recalls associated and it came back clear.

I have an appointment at my dealer tomorrow but I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before and if it's a software issue or is it bigger than that? I want to know if the dealer is going to try to jerk me around or if they know exactly what the problem is so I'm trying to educate myself. The guy on the phone said he "Personally hasn't heard of this issue before". I find that hard to believe.

Obviously I'm not too happy about this happening on a brand new truck and my first Toyota at that. We will see what they say and I'll update after my dealer visit tomorrow. I'll take some pictures of the warning messages later to post up here. Thank you in advance.

I've had my new truck for a total of 9 days. No warnings or errors yet. I hope that it's easily resolved for you.

Did you tint the windshield? There is a sensor behind the rear view that could be your problem if you added dark/ ceramic tint. Hope you get it fixed.
I’ve had my 18 for 3k miles and no issues so far.

Thank you Husky. I'll cruise through that thread now. Weird thing with mine is that the radar or the trailer system didn't show any issues. Just the PCS and LDA.

Knuckle, I did put an eyebrow on it. Actually I took it back today for them to re-do it because it was too low the first time. It's now at the level of the factory black dots in the center of the windshield. Before they had it about 3" below that right in my line of sight. I've had it tinted for about 5 days now and the issues just appeared this morning after driving it in the rain last night.

When I took my truck back to the tint shop, the warnings went away. I'm really hoping that my dealer will help me out tomorrow and not run me around in circles. Seeing I just dropped a lot of money there, they should treat me right..... hopefully

I have an appointment to take my truck in for the 5000 mile service next week, I'm going to have the dealer take a look at my PCS system as well. I haven't had that particular error message, but one day the thing went hay-wire and the light came on saying the PCS was off (it wasn't) and that the adaptive cruise control was unavailable, and to clean the sensor. There was nothing on the sensor. It only happened the one time, that was last month. I've also had 3 or 4 false alarms (BRAKE!) since I got the truck. I don't know if the dealer is going to be able to do anything, but I at least want it documented that I complained in case things get worse. Really at this point, the false alarms are so infrequent that it's not an issue.

Coming back from the tint shop the malfunction warnings stayed off but I got the "Pre-Collision System Unavailable - Clean Sensor" message. Then the orange light in the bottom right hand side of the dash was going on and off. I believe it's the PCS symbol. Luckily I got a picture of that too.

Make sure the dealer documents that you mentioned this on the service invoice. I've had times with my previous truck (16 Taco) where I'd bring my truck in for regular service, mention at the counter I was having a weird issue, and then when the regular service was done, they'd give me the "we couldn't find anything wrong" and didn't document my complaint. This way you'll have a record of every time that particular system has screwed up.

That said, don't lose heart. I know it's aggravating with a new truck. But Tundras are great trucks, even if the radar system is dumb. And for what it's worth, I've done some creeping at Tacoma World, and it looks like the new Tacos are having the same radar malfunctions.

Take photos that show mileage, the “PCS Off” light on the dash AND the heads up menu that shows the PCS System “on”. Likely the dealer will not always be able to get the system to throw an error. I had to show my dealer over 40 photos to get the point accross that something wasn’t right.

    Here is an example.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll grab a picture of that before I go in as well. You guys rock.

I'm not too disheartened about it but it's definitely not an optimal situation. Other than that, I love the truck so far.

Had the same thing tonight. Driving along, the orange "PCS Off" light came on. Checked the menu, it still said it was on. I toggled it off and then back on, no effect. Wasn't long until I reached my destination. Shut it down, and when I got back in and started it up the light was off. Never saw it come back on the whole ride home.

Had my truck 9 days now. This whole PCS thing and even the radar cruise is something I could have really lived without.

ETA: We did have a hard rain yesterday. I wasn't driving in it, but my truck is parked outside.

First off, I want to thank the members of the forum for highlighting the issue and probable solution. I took my 2018 with 2500 miles to the dealer on Saturday and then again yesterday. I pointed out the continued PCS off light issue and the radar CC not working when the PCS system turns itself off. They called me last night and told me they have been working with Toyota and were checking on moisture in the radar sensor. The replacement is on back-order so I am in the rental car until the part is available.

Dropped her off at the dealer and got a Tacoma to drive around for the day. Let's just say we didn't get started out on the right foot. They tried to tell me that rain or weather conditions could cause the sensor malfunction issue.

As well as I get that hair raising "BRAKE!" Message when there is noting around. Jad it at the dealer this past week, voiced my concerns... got the answe of " the texh plugged in and checked the system, no error codes found. They took it on a 50 mile drive to nowhere and could not duplicate the customers complaint". That being said, 2 days later.... same issues occured. Call toyota cuatomer service and was issued a case #. They will get back to me.

SloppyJ please let us know what your dealer says. Mine was at the dealership for 4 days and they said they couldn't find out what was wrong with it. They are assuming since I lifted the truck that it threw the sensor out of calibration. Sounds plausible to me, so I bought a bracket from another member here that has good results. Since yours isn't lifted it's a mystery. $50k for a truck with a ton of warning lights. I'm not a happy camper. My 2014 SR5 was never EVER in the shop for anything other than oil and brakes.

Can one of you guys list the Toyota Customer Service number that you called here? I go to the dealer next week, I'm anticipating being blown off. Fortunately I'm not having this issue nearly as much as other people are, but any false alarms with the system are an annoyance.

Right, so Toyota has put software in their vehicles that will malfunction on a daily basis if you live in say, Florida, or will be completely inoperable for 4 months a year if you live in the Northeast. That was sarcasm, by the way. They can't use weather as an excuse for an error like this.

I have a approx lift of 4 1/2” (tires and lift) and not a single TSS issue. Don’t let them just write it off on the lift.

It's the next day, almost 24hrs from when i dropped it off, and I haven't got a call yet. I was supposed to hear back before 4pm yesterday. I'm really going to to my best to call them out on their BS and not settle for anything less than a sensor being replaced. At the end of the day, it's a malfunctioning safety feature and it's a pretty big deal since it's connected to the braking system of the vehicle. If they don't like that, I'd settle for a new truck. :burp:

I'll update as soon as I hear back.

^^ We have a winner right here ^^

I had to eat some crow at the dealer. When I had my truck tinted I got a brow put on. They squeegeed the water out towards the center of the windshield right into the black box that houses the camera behind the rear view mirror. The dealer said they had never seen this before and they had to get 3 different people to look at it before the figured it out. In the end they took the black plastic trim off and cleaned it.

I wasn't rude about anything but I was preparing myself for the worst case scenario on the drive to the dealer. They were extremely nice about the whole deal and didn't charge me a dime. They earned my business for sure.

So anyone reading this that has this issue and got a brow tinted, you now know the fix. He advised me not to try and take it apart myself if it ever happens again because the tabs can be easily broken just FYI.

Yea I don’t know about that. I had mine fixed sensor, harness and everything. Things were good until Recently. I got the warning that said “PCS off front camera unavailable”. Last week it said “PCS off clean sensor”. The truck was cleaned the night before. I think the system just has some issues and needs to be redone for the 2019’s.

I wasn't either. I've only put 25 miles on it since I got it back so we will see how it goes. I hope I never see that damn warning again.

I would have the whole safety sense system completely removed from the truck or turn it off permanently ...or else i would not buy it..Or they pay me $60 per hour every hour they are dicking with my truck. LOL
Im old school and can drive without running into shit.

I've been following this thread. It pains me to hear about all these new "nannie" issues on the newer Tundras. My 07 doesn't have them. Don't want them. IMHO, don't laugh too hard, haha....certain safety nannies need to be left OFF trucks or to be able to be disabled by the owner. For crying out loud, how many more do we need? I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere and have my truck go into limp mode for NOTHING!
