FYI.. Dealership said 30k is severe service not standard. Quoted me $475*
Told me to do it at 60k. Couldn't find anywhere in maintenance book where 30k is listed.
    Am I missing something?

I just had mine done today at 40k. My truck is the same as yours minus the TRD.

    Front Diff $ 104.44
    Rear Diff $83.57
    Transfer Case $85.07

    Total $273.08

I sure wish we had a smidgen of consistency and frequency concerning something as simple as a fluid change!

Call another dealer. I have found huge discrepancies, mostly I think it has to do with either being located in the 'high rent district" or a brand new facility that they need to make hefty payments on their building. I found one established local dealer who gives me a huge discount on Toyota factory oil, but another one which is closer, sells all parts at retail price (they just renovated their showroom and put a lot of money into other parts of the dealership).

For $475 they are putting the synthetic lube in the wrong rear end. :eek2:

Yes, the transfer case oil for 3rd gens is a bit expensive, but

Honestly, they did it to get rid of me. I bought it from a nearby Toyota dealer about 20 miles away. Everyone here wants Toyota consistency but they are always swamped so no competition.
I’ve heavily considered independents but half the time they never get the fluids right, take all day, or I have to bring in OEM parts. Not the best town to have autocare in.

Anyone care to chime in on the change interval? 30k seems like gospel here, but Toyota says 60k and mine doesn't even remotely meet the severe use criteria (26k on a 2016, 15 lifetime 4wd miles, maybe same for dirt roads, 9-10k miles per year, garaged and washed religiously.

Unless you are running a bunch of miles in 4WD not sure why you would do a transfer fluid change. I changed it in the Tacoma at 50 and it was golden and looked brand new. I do run mine in 4WD fairly often but it is not nearly the miles I run on the hwy. Now the ones that live in the frozen north probably do a lot more but even up there I can't imagine it is more than 20% for most.

Front and rear are too high IMHO
T-case seems on point due to the 75w fluid.

    Wait...what?!?

My dealership said it's a "life long" fluid and doesn't need to be changed!

I'm at 60k now. Can we do this ourselves or do we need "special" tools? I'd love to put Amsoil in it.

I've seen INSPECT all the way to the end of the book. Change is a offroad/towing/HD application only.
Am I nuts? Am I reading this correctly ?
