    Hi guys,

Having an issue with my new Tundra. This is my third Tundra purchased from the same dealership. Truck is inconsistantly smoking from the exhaust. Additionally the engine has burned 1.5 quarts of oil at this point. Been back to the dealer and the recommendation from the service manager is bring the truck back at the 5k mark .The truck has 3300 miles now and was back at under 1k when I noticed the issue. I have also called the dealership and the finance company and I informed them of the issue everytime the truck does smoke, when I catch it. I took a video today but can't seem to upload it to the site. I was told by the dealership that Toyota claims that there is not one documented issue that coincides with what I am describing. The truck does not smoke on start up ever. The issue is inconsistent and seems there is no rhyme or reason as to when it will smoke. Blows white smoke when it does start to blow, can't pinpoint the smell but I'm not accustomed to these (new to me) synthetic oils burning providing that is the issue. I scribed the dipstick to keep a close eye and no doubt to me that it is burning oil. Not happy with the truck nor the way the dealership that I purchased three trucks from is treating me. It's apparent to me they could give a @!@!

I just wanted to see if any of you guys have had similar issues as I beyond frustrated with the entire experience. I have never had one issue, large or small with a tundra till now.

    Thanks alot.
    Brett

That sucks your having issues with your new truck. I’d be frustrated as fuck if the dealership won’t even fix the problem. I can’t recall anyone with the same issues you are having. Hopefully more people can chime in with suggestions.
Unfortunately the only way to upload a video is through other sites (eg YouTube) you’d have to upload it into YouTube and then paste the link.
A video would be a lot of help for the members to get an idea of what you are talking about

    Welcome.
Upload the video to YouTube, and post the link here.

Is there a different Toyota dealer you can take it to?

I'd do some research on local dealer service departments until you find one that actually wants to help you.

    Welcome to the site.

Sometimes a new motor will burn oil. This should taper off. I think 1.5 qts in 3300 miles is excessive, so like others have suggested, get some video if you can.

If this continues, the possible causes:

Positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV) sticking.

    Piston rings

    Valve guilds

    Flux capacitor!
Sorry to hear about your current situation. What part of the country do you have the truck in? How did you determine the truck was 1.5 quartz low? Has Toyota offered to look at your truck yet? Hopefully with all the great Toyota owners on here we can help you figure out what the issue is.

IMHO seems odd to call the finance company every time this happens but that is just me. I am also not sure why it is relevant of there being a documented issue of this happening, warranty doesn't stipulate there needs to be documented cases of the problem for them to fix it.

I would force the dealers hand in to keeping it to investigate and give you a loaner or wait until 5k as they told you. If anything happens the truck is under warranty and they told you to wait, of course I would have that documented.

In the meantime don't use cruise control and watch out for mailboxes.

Thank you for the warm welcome guys! I had scribed the dipstick in order to carefully monitor the oil consumption.

I only called the finance company in an effort to keep everyone involved with the truck purchase aware of the issue that I am having, mainly because the dealership seemed ( in my opinion) not very interested in resolving the issue. I'm not sure in instances like this that the truck will stop burning oil.. the last word I heard from the service manager was being it back at 5k or if the oil light comes on. Don't know how you guys feel about your engines but I'm not so comfortable about letting the oil level get to a point as to where the light comes on.

    Thanks again

    Welcome from Texas!

Sorry about your motor oil issue. I always thought the oil light was for low pressure, not level. Either way not a "feel good" moment.

I am also experiencing a similar issue. 11K miles currently on my truck. One afternoon I was taking lunch, started the truck and a large plume of smoke comes out of the tail pipe. The truck had been sitting for a few hours since I had gotten to the office. It has never smoked before. I just had the dealer do an oil change at 10K

So I scheduled an appointment to take it in the next morning. Before heading to the dealership I took video of a startup and there was smoke.

The dealer has the truck right now. They claim they didn't see any smoke. But I had them keep it overnight so they can see the smoke for themselves. They stated they had done pressure checks, etc.

If they can't find anything I will continue to monitor and videotape any smoke from the pipes. If they refuse to look into it I'll email Toyota corporate.
