I don't have a good answer for you. I've heard a dozen explanations. The manufacturer decides if the PIC primary position will be left or right side. For many utility designs its on the left side because it is easier to lean over the collective vs away from it while looking down during long line work. On the Airbus 130 PIC sits left side to protect the collective from passengers in a high density configuration. The aircraft was design with tour as the primary job. I've flown both left and right hand drive AStars and they depend on how it was ordered. 99% of them are right side PIC.
As for which control goes where you're using all four extremities so no matter what, you've got something in your off hand. If you can't learn to move them all in coordination you're not going to last very long!

Now that makes sense. Kind of (emphasis on "kind of") like operating a Cat or a high lead logging yarder operator (as in multiple controls), only you don't leave the ground.

Ouch that's pretty rough. Glad to hear you stuck with it and it has paid off. I know from what my 2 hours of stick time that you have to be able to rub your stomach, pat your head and tap your feet to Dixie at the same time.

You left out "chewing gum".. heh heh. Yea, can't be easy flying choppers and once you have that nailed, then you only have to look out for high tension wires, and other "minor" obstacles.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Gets expensive real fast. Well looks like you have enough fun toys to play with anyways. :) The SA bulldog looks fun. Didn't they use those for the simulated dog fights?

Ya c'est la vie I guess... The bulldog is fun... it was a Swedish Air Force pilot trainer in the 80s. Considered a "war bird" but has a Lycoming O-360 and a few modern touches to it... fully aerobatic too :D

That's why I never got into a&p tho I was set up to goto school to get more knowledge and to get the certificates. Friend told me I would sleep though the class about 80% of it. . Unless you break in with the big boys the pay is not that great.

Most folks that I know over the years with A&P certs are living pretty high on the hog. They all had military experience. That military experience pays off quick. Military MOS in aviation/avionics can be a huge advantage. You just need to sacrifice 4 or more years. I have two friends up in Anchorage, Mark & Mark, both have been with Alaska Air for over 20 years. They are not poor by any means. Both are ex Air Force. I guarantee there is "zero" sleeping thru military aviation schools (at least from my USMC /training at USAF Lowry, CO) experience. You will not last long if you do. Safety of flight is taken very seriously. If you truly know your stuff, you will make the big bucks.

How was your tuna experience? I've been told it was a lot of fun but often a very shady operation

I did the fish spotting thing back in the late 70s-80s out of a Cub. Was a blast. Fortunately I was never more then a few miles off shore and always had a bunch of boats below me in case that motor ever decided to give it up. Then went on to do some glider towing. Several hundred take offs and landings every day. I think I could have landed that cub with a blindfold on. Good times for sure.

That is awesome! My brother was an instructor for awhile and I got to fly a DC-8 sim back in the 80s. If my memory serves me correct, it took me 3-4 tries to get it on the ground. But what a blast!

Took me 3 landings to finally get it without slamming down on the runway... I've never started a flare procedure at 30 feet before...lol and then we started doing max demonstrated x-wind landings... that took a couple to get right lol...

Not all are, some are flown from the left seat.
Both hands are busy anyways when flying a helicopter, so right or left handed it doesn't much matter as you're using both constantly.
