Pro Grille and Bilstein 5100's on finally

I went with the 5100 in front and back. Highest setting up front and 1" block in the back. Now I just need to do something with the front bumper.

side note: I took my truck in today to have them look at my front rotors because i was having vibration braking. They ended up turning all four of them. Truck only has 26,000 miles on it. Any of you guys have rotor issues?

nothing, i was simply showing what the truck looked like since i put new suspension and the pro grille on. i didn't mean for this to upset you so much sweetie. i love the hardos on this forum.

 

I think he was suggesting the pro grille warped his rotors. That’s how I took it anyway. The same thing happened to me when I put on my pro grille. Wicked torque and wicked shimmy.

 

I have just around 32k and have some shaking in hard breaking over the last couple weeks. Did they turn the rotors under warranty? I'm thinking I need to get it done.

 

The dealer turned the rotors? I doubt that highly. There is a TSB on rotor warping on the 3rd gens. If anything they replaced with better parts.

 

I did not know there was a tsb on the rotors? Mine seem to need to be turned. Maybe I'll call and see if I can get them replaced. Do you by chance know where to find the tsb's for our trucks?

 

Stand by. I also do not think they turn them. Nobody does that anymore.

It’s a pretty well known TSB and issue so if you do a little googling you will find more info.

 

Toyota Tundras don’t come with good brakes. I had vibrations around 15k miles. All the Tundras and Sequoias that I have ever owned had that problem. Had to change them all out for heavy duty crossed/drills. Those seemed to work best for bigger vehicles.

 

Yea, I’ve been shopping brakes but I think I’ll have them do the TSB and buy myself some time.

Same thing here, pretty minor though. I may replace my front rotors.

I agree. Don’t get upset if you brakes still vibrates within a few thousand miles after they do whatever they do. It’s just a Toyota thing! They aren’t known for their brakes. In fact, their brakes are one of the first things that high performance experts always replace whenever the modify Toyota vehicles. I was very surprised last year at SEMA, when saw the aftermarket brakes that Toyota had on their concept vehicles and lexus’

 

You have any suggestions for a good set up? I was looking at SP performance. They have 25% off entire order and seem to be legit.

It’s very important to note that if you don’t follow the manufacturer’s brake-in steps, it doesn’t matter how good the brakes are or how expensive they are, they will warp!!

it doesn't say anything there about replacing rotors. i was told that toyota will do one resurfacing during the warranty period.

 

Interesting, did they take your word for it, or did you have to pull a few teeth to get it done?

 

told them i had vibration braking and they just did it. they did bullshit me when i asked how a 26000 mile truck had rotor issues. he said "it's a heavy truck and the brakes take a beating, and i may have run through a puddle when they were hot." i was there for 3 hours at that point so i just wanted to get out. for what it's worth the truck brakes perfect now. hopefully i won't have anymore issues, but i will probably get slotted or cross drilled rotors at some point

 

They told you that is what the TSB entails? Resurfacing? I’ll find out on Tuesday. It would be the worlds WORST TSB. Have a TSB because of sub par part. Take part, grind it thinner and put back on. Now, wait for it fail even sooner!

 

This confuses me a little.

The warped rotors are a what, maybe 10-15% market issue?

Service bulliten is a repair, not a recall. Resurfacing the rotors is in fact that - a repair not charged to the consumer.

They could very well have just said pound sand.

That least thats just my opinion.

I disagree. They issue a recall because the issue could be safety oriented and they don’t want to get the shit sued out of them. A TSB basically says we know there is an issue but it falls short of the recall standards which by the way is also a “repair”.
If they take the TSB and put a rotor better designed to not warp under normal use and towing what they have determined the truck to pull it’s still a “repair.”
Now if resurfacing and inferior part is the answer then it’s basically just a short term solution because it will no doubt happen again.
If that’s the solution to mine then I will be looking aftermarket and spending 600-1000 bucks on a 50,000 dollar truck with 15,000 miles on it. That is unacceptable and a FAILURE on Toyota’s part to match the brakes to the truck.
