So I got all interjectic today.
I installed the TRD airflow device between the air box and fender.
No big deal to install. Haven’t done a test drive yet but looking for that 1 or 2 HP gain. I’m sure I will be able to tell it when I step on to get up to 30 with all my Widny Vity driving.

Now to the before and after cleaning under the hood.

I took the cover thingy off the top of the motor, not sure what it’s official name is, and rinsed with water, scrubbed with Purple Power, blew it dry with air, whipped dry with a MG and buffed on som 303.
Now I just need to do the rest of the under hood area.
    Wow what a difference. 769B7D56-AC47-4992-B3F2-D82473F7E159.jpg 89623B54-D165-4A90-A65A-43A38AA1DA94.jpg

I used engine degreasers and engine brite clear coat afterwards. They both work very well. Be very cautious of getting water or chemicals in your fuse box, headlamps, and other electrical components. I used some supermarket plastic bags to cover the fuse box and anything like that.

I took it off to wash. I plan to use very little water when I do the rest. I will use Boars hair brushes and some cleaner SouthBoundSteve recommended.
    I work slow.

Yup, take it nice and slow with the degreaser, soap, and water in your engine bay. There’s nothing to be afraid of, though. I always blow out the engine bay with my air hose after clearing it. That drys out the area much quicker and helps to prevent rust that would otherwise build up from the be water, and so on.

Looks nice. I don't clean under the hood anymore. Too many electronics and I don't eat under there... Lol
Grease, dielectric silicone, non water tight covers, electronics... Nope.

I know it gets wet under there, but I'm not poking the bear. The guy that had a million miles on his never did it... I'll risk it.

It does look nice when they are clean though. So keep the pictures coming for the chicken Littles in the group.

I am a believer in that it is a lot easier to keep something clean than to let it go to hell and then try to clean it. I spray my engine compartment with degreaser about once a month and rinse it off good. That way it will stay like new for a long time. My Tacoma was 16 years old when I traded it in and they thought I had it professionally detailed. I have never spent more than a few minutes on it at a time.

That’s great. Just a garden hose?

Simple Green is good to use for under the hood. It's not too powerful like Purple Power and won't leave white residue behind. With a cold motor I start the engine, spray liberally with Simple Green, and let soak for a bit, than gently rinse. On more heavier coated engines I will scrub with a soft brush prior to rinsing. I try to keep the engine bay clean to avoid heavy clean ups as stated above myself as well. It also makes it easier to find leaks and any other oddities that may be going on early as well.

I just spray it down all over with engine degreaser at the coin operated car wash then rinse it all down good with the wand at low power. I then drive it around and let the engine heat and radiator fan dry it off as best they can. It keeps it relatively clean but doesn't look as nice and new looking as the OP's and others I've seen on here.

Here are a few photos of my Tacoma's engine bay after 16 years.

Dust is what California driving is about. No mud, salt, grime, etc. I likely could use an air compressor.. if I had one.
