Hey I have a 2001 tundra and I’m about to pull the trigger on some new wheels and tires. Im currently running terra grapplers on the truck and I’ve been very happy with them but I have been hearing great things about the ridge grappler. Basically I was wondering if any how much would a ridge grappler sacrifice in gas mileage vs a terra grappler? I spend most of my time on the road putting well over 100 miles a day on my truck most days but I do find myself every now and then where a more aggressive tire would help. Was just wondering if anyone has ever run both on their truck and what the differences were. Thank you.

I ran terra grapplers on my 04 Tacoma and had no complaints. Did very good in the snow.

The RGs are a little nosier and noticeably heavier. They're fine even on long drives though

I wouldn't think they would sacrifice too much in gas mileage if you go with the same size and they are similar in weight. The terra grapplers should be lighter though as the RG's have a bigger sidewall. I would say to plan on a 1 mpg loss and hope that you don't have that. You shouldn't have more than that, so ask yourself if you could deal with that. If so, go for them!

I have put roughly 1500 miles on my RGs. I can tell they are heavier but are actually very quiet. I have gone from 14.5 MPG to 14.4 MPG.

RG's are quiet. Doesn't hum like the others. Took it for a 5k trip with the toddlers and no complaints whatsoever.

Yeah Ill have to echo what a few others have said. I had 295/70r18 G2 TGs and then went up a size to 35x12.5 RGs and the RGs are actually unexpectedly quieter. Not sure why, just my observation. Both are very capable. RGs look a bit more aggressive to me, and I liked that look. The RGs are not a true mud terrain tire, but Ive taken both TGs and RGs off road and the think the RGs are step closer to a mud terrain and even when caked in clay they would still pull my ass out of the mud.

Oh and as far as fuel economy....instead of badass off road tires you could go with a Prius. Not about miles per gallon my friends, its all about the smiles per gallon. But to attempt to answer your question, you likely will not see a difference in MPGs if you stay on the same size tire. You may see a very small loss of MPGs if you go up in size, buts way offset by the SPGs...smiles per gallon ;)

I do agree smiles per gallon is more important than miles per gallon but with the amount I drive it definitely is a factor. The reason I ask is because when I bought my truck it had highway tires and when I switched to my terra grapplers that I have now I lost about 2-3 mpg on the highway same size and everything only difference is tread pattern.

That middle patch of the RG has lugs that are spaced closely and aids in the noise redution.

Just pulled the trigger on some fuel vandal 18x9 -12 offset and Nitto ridge grapplers! Very excited to see what it’ll look like as there is nobody around my area running anything like this. I’ll send pictures when they come in and I get them on the truck
