Programmers?

Curious as to what options I have for my 05 tundra 4.0 v6 that people know about...I cannot find a single one. I wonder if a Tacoma programmer would work on it?

 

Taco programmer will not work.

If your ecu is the same as 4.7 land cruiser (which it very well could be) then any alien tech dealer may be able to program it. If you open it up and post up a pic of the inside I could tell you if it is.

I’ve found that you can accomplish about the same thing as a programmer using hard parts. Injectors. Stock air box mod. Throttle body coolant bypass mod. You can also run 20% ethanol to hop up the truck.

Throttlebody coolant bypass mod has my interest, any links for how to do that?

 

It would be similar to bypassing your heater core. Like we did in the old days when it would start leaking. Just take the two hoses for coolant that lead to the throttlebody and nipple them together. I’ve thought about doing mine but I’m under warranty and figured I just leave it alone. Obviously we don’t have the same truck but the same principle applies.

 

OK, how does this benefit my truck?

 

If yours is equipped with this, it’s my understanding that it will help cool the air inlet temperature to the throttlebody. Colder air equals more horsepower. Similar to adding a cold air intake so that your drawing air from outside of the engine bay (our trucks are basically equipped with this feature already). This just ensures that the air stays as cool as possible. There may be negative affects if you live in a really cold climate. Not sure how negative they would be though.

That sure looks like the 4.0L V6 that was in my 2nd Gen Taco.....

 

I feel like it would be the same. If Toyota made a 4.0 for the taco and a 4.0 for the tundra in the same year, why would they make them different 4.0’s?
