Guys with "bench" seat up front, where do you put your pistol?

Trying to figure out the best place to store my pistol for easy access.

The little compartment under the middle seat is too difficult to get into if you ride with the middle back folded down like I do to access your compartments and cup holders. My VP9 is too large to fit in the compartment closest to me, and I already have my flashlight and other stuff in the rear compartment. It doesn't seem like there is a place in our truck to easily access a midsize pistol. I also prefer it to be holstered when stored in most places to protect it from getting dinged and scratched (takes .5 seconds to sling the holster off anyway).

Was thinking of adding a small tray that slides out under the middle seat just above the large carpeted hump on the floor, but there are metal brackets behind the plastic which would make it impossible. (3rd pic for reference)

I guess I need to buy a smaller and easier to conceal pistol anyway (only time I really carry this one on me is in the woods since its hard to conceal), any recommendations on a subcompact? (Besides a Glock, I know they are excellent pistols and I have owned a few of them, but they just aren't my style). Anyone keep a small pistol in the little compartment closest to the driver seat?

I'd love to know a solution to this as well. And isn't the VP9 fantastic!?! Bought it for my wife and I don't think it's left my hand yet ;)

Sure is, H&K did a fine job with this gun. Love how easy it is to break down and how light weight it is. The customization options for the grips are what sold me though. Never held a gun that felt better in my hand, especially after I played with the different grips (added the larger grip on the right side to fit better when holding it, and medium on the back). Certainly a smooth shooter as well. Definitely my favorite gun, but now I'm thinking of getting one easier to conceal that will fit in the smallest compartment closest to me (can never have too many pistols anyway).

What ammo do you run in it? I have been using Speer Gold Dot 124grain hollowpoints and they are excellent

I carry an XDS 9mm, and as well, trying to find a place for a holster. I carry on my hip, but for longer trips would like a spot to put it...

This little compartment would be ideal, perfect width at the bottom for the barrel to rest (1 1/2"), more than enough length (about 7"), but only 3 3/4" tall.

I personally just don't like my firearm not on me. Training is everything. I'm still pretty quick with unbuckling with my support hand and drawing from 4 o'clock. That said, crossdraw or shoulder holsters worked the fastest for me in my vehicular defense class.

If I'm gonna be driving for awhile, I just stick mine in a holster in between the drivers seat and center console. But idk if your state allows OC in a vehicle.

Created this account just to add my 2 cents since I'm looking for a spot better than in between the middle seat and the driver's seat. I have the xdm 4.5" and i haven't tried this idea out at all but here it is. What about removing the "lid" for lack of a better term, from the compartment closest to the driver? i personally wouldn't be very worried about other people seeing my gun in plain sight but that's because my windows are legally tinted way darker than what would normally be legal. how practical is it? i don't know. figured it wouldn't hurt to suggest it.

Depends where you live. Here in FL it cant be in plain sight, has to be in a closed compartment.

Rather than removing the lid, maybe this would be up your alley:

It's all about that GCODE man! Seriously tho, Jason said it best. Find out where you are most comfortable drawing your firearm and practice. I personally don't like to carry IWB on long road trips and cant draw for shit with any holster on my side in a vehicle for that matter. This will actually be installed today in my truck finally and I'm positive it will greatly enhance my draw time.
