Hello all. I started a new thread to ask a specific question regarding the TRD models. My understanding is that the only difference suspension wise from a regular SR5 to TRD are the shocks and the coil over springs on the front. Am I correct on this?
    Thanks

I think TRD also has, limited-slip differential, tow receiver and larger tire size.
Edit: 1st gen TRD came with fender flares, too.

Ah should clarify which gen. I'm referring to 3rd gen. My 1st gen wasn't trd but I think it had lsd.

Oh man. Sorry for not responding sooner. I didn't see the email alert....
The used Tundras Im seeing in my price range happen to be the TRD off road, not pro. I would like the floor shifter, towing package and the nicer wheels. So the TRDs are more plentiful than SR5 with the upgrade package. I very seldom go on back roads and desire a smooth ride. If suspension wise the only thing different are the shocks and the coil overs in front, I imagine that I could easily remove them and put it back to a stock suspension?

Hey guys, just chiming in on this as I have a similar question, but more-so regarding lift.

Does the TRD Offroad package provide any higher ride over a stock SR5 without the yellow Bilsteins? I'm trying to figure out my possibilities of lift.

The TRD Offroad package has no correlation to the SR5 upgrade package. It can come with either, both or neither. The SR5 upgrade is what will give you the floor shifter and bucket seats. And on '16+ it'll get you the 38 gallon gas tank.

I have had the sport model in the Tacoma's i have owned and was a little worried about a rougher ride with my Tundra SR 5 TRD Off Road. After 3000 miles I have to say that I prefer the off road version because of a little stiffer ride. The ride is stiffer but not like I worried about and it actually runs smoother over some of our rougher city streets. We have several dips and rough areas in the city and the Off Road package takes them a lot better than the Sport package ever did. The truck is as smoth as glass on smooth roads and I have to say that my initial worries were unfounded.
I suggest taking both on a test ride over varying types of streets and make your decision. Good luck and I know you'll be happy with whichever you buy.

@galaxyflyer1 If you're interested in certain aspects of the TRD Off-road package, I'm sure you can pretty easily find people selling their take-off parts. I know I personally will be getting rid of the TRD wheels mine came with, and 95% chance I'll be removing the front shocks and swapping for Bilstein, and probably a 50% chance I'll be swapping out the rears as well.

I wish I would have thought further ahead when I bought mine, as I spent money on the off-road package when the only thing I'll probably end up keeping is the skid plates :notsure: . Just my .02.

In the same boat here. TRD package gets you nicer wheels, LED headlights, skid plates, and "trail-tuned" suspension.

I do like the TRD O/R wheels, but I don't think the upgraded alloy wheels are that bad either. LED headlights would be nice I suppose. The skid plates...I don't off-road really. I suppose they could be kind of good to have for certain scenarios though, just for added protection. I assume they made it easy to get to the oil drain plug through the skid plate?

Then there's the suspension; probably what I'm most concerned with. Is the TRD O/R suspension going to be a harsher ride on rough roads than the standard suspension? I want something that gives a nice ride and complements towing and hauling well.

I'm planning on some test drives tomorrow; I just hope I can get a good enough feel between the two that way.

I have a limited with offroad. It came with it but on the sticker, it's 75.00 with the limited. I have those fugly 20 inch wheels. The offroad wheels look the same as Pro wheels but with the silver machined parts. I may get mine powder coated or find a used set and do it. This all started because I wanted a power back window. Sport and limited are the only ones with that.

Power back window is not just on the Sport and limited. Its a crewmax thing (SR5, limited, sport, etc). DoubleCab does not have the power back window.

on the double cab, it's only on the limited and sport. I don't know about crewmax. I have a double cab limited and it has a power back window. The sport had it but then it has those hideous rapper rims.:)

Kind of a bunny trail, but the discussion is SR5 and TRD related...

Don't quote me, just something I believe I stumbled upon doing some research.

The SR5 uses black shocks, not sure of the mfg so I cannot state anything valving. But I believe I read that a lot of the shocks bilstein puts out as OE replacements are valved digressive. Anyone know if this is true? Anyone know then if the Toyota bilsteins are valved as such as well?

Sorry, when i saw "power back window" i only thought of the entire window going down (crewmax) and thought you were referring to that window but yes, power in both. My b.

I wish I didn’t hate the two huge doors and smaller bed. That whole window coming down is cool.
