Our house is across the street from open space so we are always battling rats. Been using the old snap-traps and I just toss them with the dead rat. (My dog even caught a rat the other day - dove into the bushes and came up with a rat in his mouth.) I will need to check out this trap.

I used those snap-traps before. I didn't like seeing splattered blood on the floor. I hate to have to clean it up. :D

Except for the rat that died between the subfloor and the kitchen cabinet, we have been lucky that the rats have stayed to the crawl spaces. Finally bit the bullet and paid to have the house rat-proofed and this made a huge difference. Also removed or trimmed up all outside plants so that they were off the ground.

Kinda impressed at how cautious that rat was. He inspected the hell out of that thing. In the end, peanut butter won. ... peanut butter always wins.

But how do you really feel about rats? ;)

We tried poison once - this lead to the dead rat between the cabinet and sub floor. Came home after being gone for a week and my wife wanted to burn the house down. Even after getting the decomposing rat out it took a long time for the smell to go away.

I don't care about being humane to rats that reproduce 5x in 2 minutes....sorry. I feel the same about mice too. Fun would be sitting there waiting with NVGs or thermals on and using a cattle prod on them:D

Kill those fKers! Rats caused me $1300 damage on my old Tundra (chewed up the wiring harness) and $600 on my jeep (wiring and the damn gas line) all over a 2 week period. I can't stand those bastards!

I live near a huge park (the park is 800 acres). They had cleared and burned some cedar that had been laying around for years. I think that drove the rats out. I used the commercial rat traps for outdoors (black boxes you need a key to open). I found goldfish crackers it a favorite treat for them. As a precaution I put a trap on under my hood every damn night for a month. Never caught one under the hood but did see rat droppings one time after paying for the repair.
On another note, I took my harley in to have new handlebars put on. About 5 minutes after they rolled it into the shop a guy came flying out- said a rat had been hiding in my faring. I rode the bike 25 miles to the shop. if that bugger had come out on me while running down the hiway I'm not sure if I could have kept the bike up!
