Had some requests to do a DIY for this, so here it is.
    Tools needed:
    Dremel with grinding wheel
    Torx 15 bit/driver
    Philips screw driver
    Plastic epoxy
    Pry tool
I started by removing the door panels, I used this video from youtube:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhyE355Amzc

    5_zpszofksluj_1b46932abb1e9ee75941d2251e97b3b9743a8e52.jpg
next remove T15 screws that hold the armrest to the door panel. I don't have a pic, but you can't miss them.

I used 3 coats of SEM trim black, let the paint cure for 24 hours. Assembly is reverse of tear down.

I wonder how many times it'll hold paint. Color match to the exterior. Then if it's too tacky I can't color it black

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Does the door panel need to come off if you only want the handles off? Hard to tell if you can slide the silver handle portion off while that whole handle piece is still on the door handle in the truck.

i don't see how just the handle would come off. when I took the first panel off, I didn't see any way that just the handle could be removed without removing the entire door panel.

Alrighty, thanks for the info! I plan on just doing the handles so I was just curious if the disassembly could be simplified or not.

Looks good I might do this! My previous f150 had a full black interior expect for the headliner and I really liked the look of it. I was thinking of painting all the grey component in my truck black as well (grab handle columns, seat belt covers, etc.) has anyone done this before?

Did it still smell like paint? I painted some parts let cure for 24 hrs and they were completely dry however the smell was too much to be cool with.

Man, the write up was a lifesaver. I ended up masking off the rest of the handle since I couldn't pry off the chrome, but the results are sweet!

Resurrecting the thread once again. Think it's possible to do the "metal" trim under the OEM headunit? Planning on painting like Rolling Stones did.

Do you mean the climate control panel?

That one would be tough because of the lit portions. You’d have to figure out a way to mask those, which would be tedious but not impossible. Here’s a view that might remind you how many little lighted areas you’d need to get perfect:
