Oil change

I'm having a problem with my dealer. They don't want to change my oil! I have the extended warranty. I've had it for 11 months 7,000 miles they say no oil change needed till 10,000 miles. I don't drive it much so it could be 20 months before I hit 10,000. Is this true or am I going to mess something up? Yes it's synthetic

 

Is your truck a flex fuel? Only flex fuel trucks get a "free" oil change every 5k miles. Non flex get one every 10k. You can tell by looking at your VIN. If the fifth letter is a W, you have a flex.

 

I won't even take advantage of the free oil changes. I don't want them touching my truck if I can help it. I'm sure they'll strip one of the front skid plate screws or something. They might even be too lazy and not change the filter or change the oil at all. At least if I do it I know I'll get it right.

 

I'd look in the owners manual about the oil change intervals. I'd be pissed about the 10,000 mile mark. One of my last cars recommended 10,000 mile changes and I wasn't comfortable with that thick ass oil running through my turbos (I'd change in my garage at the halfway mark.) I also have a problem with my local service department, they tend to forget to putting the oil cap back on after service, the clean and wipe of the interior is shit and inconsistent, among other things I've had problems with.

 

Your extended warranty likely only covers oil changes at the manufacturer recommended intervals. If you want it more frequently than that, it will be on your dime. The end.

 

I did my first oil change at 8500 and sent a sample to black stone labs. The testing came back as normal with some high points typical of a new engine. I won't be taking advantage of Toyota care with my truck I like to do my own maintenance.

I will be doing my next change next week at 13000 just to get rid of the high points in the test then up to my standard 7500 miles I do with synthetic oil that I do with all my vehicles. I send every few oil changes to black stone just in make sure everything is still in check.

 

Damn so if I want it sooner I have to pay. That sucks.. yeah I'm not comfortable waiting till 10,000.

 

Just going off the results of my test 10,000 is totally fine on your truck with synthetic oil. I drive like an ass tow at least three times a month and they were all within normal at 8500 miles. If you can't wait you will have to pay.

 

I just wanted to be sure it's fine with the truck. I don't trust the dealer and you guys always steer me in the right direction.

 

My Amsoil Synthetic@ 7500 miles is as clean as it was going in. It's not the oil that fails first, you could run 10k easy. It's the filter that breaks down. Just my 2 cents.

 

I have a Flex Fuel and my dealer changes every 5K under the Toyota Care (first 5 are free).

 

Possibly this could be the sales preference? I have a non flex and I get the first 5 or 25k/2year free service.

 

Ditto pretty much on all of the above. Wouldn't hurt going a rival Toyota Dealer just to see what they say.
