Do lifts slow us down?

Would my truck be slower if I went with say a 6" lift instead of a 3" lift with same wheel/tire setup?

 

I’d like to think yes on the top end. But not by much. It would be more of a wind resistance factor.

Absolutely!!! It's the law of physics......Plus, pickup trucks aren't made to be aerodynamic! They are made to be big, boxy, slow, load carriers. Of course, whenever we modify them by lifting them, it only makes them even much more slower than they were previously. The only work around to making them faster after lifting them, is to add turbos or superchargers.

 

It will but not by much. It’s more of the larger and heavier tires that tax the engine, gears, and transmission.

Personal experience: before lift and tires I could drive from Denver up to the Continental Divide with cruise control on. After I got the lift and tires the truck couldn’t hold cruise on. I dropped back from 35s to 295s and now I can use my cruise control again

Keeping the same tire size with the 3in would probably be fine but, if you went with the 6 your truck is going to look like the guy who only does upper body workouts. No legs. You will end up buying bigger tires and then your truck will definitely be slower. Just my o2

Yeah you don't wanna look like you skipped leg day lol. I would rather have bigger tires on a smaller lift

My experience is the higher you go, the more wind you push. The more wind you push, the more fuel you use. Your truck, your call.

 

By the speedometer, you're actually faster...
On 35's, at 50 mph, you're really running 54. At 72, you're running 80.
If you feel a little drag getting the bigger tires moving, change up your gears to the 488s...or wait for the 529's (whenever they come out).
Until then, just turn off the nannies and you'll be fine.

 

I have not used cruise control on mountain passes. I do shift gears manually so hard to tell.
