New from Bay area California

howdy!
I just joined up to the forum to learn prior to trading in my ‘17 Tacoma TRD Sport for a ??’ Tundra (TRD 4wd or pro i hope).
I, unlike alot of folks love my Tacoma. I never had a 1rst or 2nd gen to compare it with, only had an ‘88 yota 4wd truck to compare it too. I do NOT like the auto trans in my Tacoma. thats about my only gripe.
the family is growing though, and so are our needs, so it is time to upgrade to a full size, and a Tundra is what we want.
i am a member of Tacomaworld forum. alot of good guys over there, so I hope to fit right in here as well.
Im here to learn.
about me- im in my 40’s. a father of 4. Veteran, work in the oil industry- and we live in the sf bay area unfortuneately. we hope to move up into washington in the next few years.
i grew up with alot of space in eastern Oklahoma so i am ready for acreage again and no neighbors.
we do aot of camping, hiking, etc.
i surf as often as i can and grew up wrenching on cars with my old man.
ive built two model a hotrods, a ‘55 buick custom, and ‘62 ranchero, and a ‘53 Triumph tiger chopper, so i like to mess with cars.
hope to contribute in some way here.
any and all input about what is the best Tundra build would be helpful. we will need a 4 door cab, and 4wd. that is all for now!

heres a bunch....
i basically have done nothing to it except these things:
1. immediatey traded the butt ugly factory 17” rims it came with for the SR5 16” anthracite rims which i like alot
2. put a K&N air filter in it
3. put a bunch of stickers in the back window lol
4. plasti-dip painted my front bumper black and removed the front spoiler/lower air dam which i thought was ugly also

i grew up near Pawhuska on the Osage reservation and in southeast Kansas. all my family is Cherokee and Irish on one side, Cherokee and german on the other side. Sure miss that country.....i have family in Tulsa, Blackwell, Ponca City, Tahlequah, and other lesser known tiny towns. pops was an oil field rough neck like most of my friends’ dads were in the late 70’s

Can't go wrong with a crew max or a double cab. All about how much bed space you want or cab space you want.

 

i think cab space is more important and a 6’ bed with double cab is plenty for me

welcome and great intro. If I were you, I would get a crewmax with the front bench so you can fit 6 people in your truck. You would still have plenty of space in the 5.5ft bed.
imo save money on Trd pro and get sr5 + upgrade suspension.

Welcome, John, from another newbie. I do the Tulsa Wannemacher Gun Show every April. Good friends in Tulsa. I'm jealous you get to enjoy the bay area weather, if not the politics. Between Muir Woods and Pier 39 and then being close-ish to San Jose, Monterrey Bay (with the killer aquarium) I could see living in that area.

I just picked up a Limited TRD and I can tell you the leather made all the difference for me. Love having such a posh truck that is also very capable on and off road. Plus, with an often-muddy duck dog, the combination of weathertechs and leather seats seemed the easiest to keep clean!
