The list is long enough to keep the wife mad for years!
    Hey Everyone...

Currently, I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra 4x2 Platinum and am on the search to trade it in for the 2018 model. While at a dealership in which I'm having a hard time not saying who they are but for now shall remain anonymous, I am asking why the new 2018 platinum 4x4 didn't have a spray in bedliner.

This is the answer he gave me: "The current EPA standards of these trucks equipped with a sunroof (keeping in mind the SR5 and Limited also have a sunroof) exceed the maximum weight and fuel consumption when a spray-in bedliner is applied therefore Toyota does not spray in bedliners on the 2018 model platinum 4x4."

At that point, all I could do is turn around and walk away...

Still thinking about going back and calling him out on it.

Yes its true, you can have your choice of a sunroof or spray in bed liner but not both as factory options. BUT your dealer or you can have a bed liner sprayed in at a later time.

I would go with liner, I'm not a fan of anything that takes away my headroom. I'm too tall and typically bump my head on the ceiling whenever a sunroof is installed.

Interesting, the toyota website will remove the bedliner if you pick the sunroof option.

It's absolutely true what they said.
My dealership fought for me to get it done... It went back and forth for almost a month before we both gave up. I ended up getting it Line-x-ed after I took delivery.
It's a corporate lawsuit thing in the end... Toyota doesn't want to lose a few million like they did with the floor mats when there's an accident caused by an "overweight" truck.
I actually found a platinum with the bedliner... But no sunroof!!!

"overweight" surely the bedliner cannot weigh more than the lifts and other accessories the dealers throw on these trucks on the showroom floor

Wow! So a sunroof and spray in bedliner puts a vehicle over weight, but having 4 or 6 people in the the truck doesn't put it over weight? Not directed at you. That's just some crazy logic!

he looked me dead in the eyes...

Well...if it is true, it's the dumbest damn thing I've ever heard. When I asked about the sidebars, and TRD exhaust and tonneau cover, they were all excited to add some weight!

Amazing what companies will do when faced with potential lawsuits. Reminds me of the people that pick up running lawn mowers to trim hedges and then sue the lawn mower manufacturer when it cuts their fingers off.

When the truck leaves the factory/port it is then out of Corporate's responsibility. Whatever you or the dealership adds from that point on is not their problem.
Our trucks have become stripped down with thinned out metals and lighter materials wherever they can to pass an absolute minimum standard of safety. By stripping all that weight from core materials, we are now able to add ball chilling seat coolers and many "unnecessary" but consumer demanded options. So... Instead of driving a " built like a shit house real" truck... we are driving the thinnest aluminum cans stuffed to an overflowing brim with the maximum options possible! Toyota has thinned it out sooooooo much and stuffed it sooooooo much that they can't legally sell the vehicle with a sunroof AND a sprayed in bedliner... pretty insane if you ask me.

For these thin aluminum trucks, these trucks sure have saved many lives in vehicle accidents.

Update: Called 4 other dealerships and WOW, for those that told us its true, you were absolutely RIGHT! On a better note, MEET BEDA, my new 2018 4x4 Platinum Tundra! Drop her back off next week for sidebars and a tri-fold tonneau cover.
Blank slate here fellas, what's the first thing to pull off or add? TRD exhaust maybe? Thanks for all the input. ~BoomerArWWpEmqZSZBWr8RtLY8asr3m1l_ORnj_jrmMaca_a60d921533dcd89551f80ed58c40159c86b67610.jpg

Congrats, between the bed liner and sunroof, I'd choose sunroof. As I can always spray-on bed liner from line-x with a lifetime warranty but I can't get a sunroof installed later on. TRD exhaust is a good add-on but be careful as some say that if you tow a lot the exhaust can get annoying.

yeah, not really looking for any cabin noise, but I would like a deep low rumble when I need to step on it.

While it wouldn't surprise me, I doubt it. The story is decades old though and is used more as a cautionary tale than anything.

Not exactly. It just changes the payload rating.

Dealers that add accessories usually add a sticker in the door jamb that discloses the change in payload rating and by how much.
