2014 Tundra 4x4 5.7L DC; Bilstein 6112s @ 1.9"; 35x12.50 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 20x9 wheels with +25 backspacing; DV8 front & rear bumpers, Engo 12k winch (SOLD) 2005 Tundra RC 4.7 4x4 w/3" spacer, addicted offroad tube winch bumper w/9k Engo, homemade sliders, skid row skid plate, 285/75r16 Cooper AT3, Detroit trutrac in rear.
So Ive been researching both Toytec shackles and coachbuilder. It appears the differences are as follows:

    1. CB is aluminum, Toytec is steel.

I imagine CB (coachbuilder) chose to use aluminum for rust prevention for you guys up north. That being said, the Toytec look to be zinc plated, which will also prevent rust.

    2. The CB shackles are thicker than the Toytecs.

Generally aluminum is weaker than steel, so I assume CB made them thicker to compensate for the weaker material. Regardless, both CB and Toytec shackles are clearly more heavy duty than the stock shackles.

    3. Toytecs are adjustable from 1" to 1.5". CB is custom ordered to the size you want of lift and not adjustable.

    4. CB shackles come with poly bushings and a drive line spacer to correct angles. Toytec charges about a $20 upcharge for 1 bushing.

This is were things get confusing. CB states "bushings" (as in plural). I don't know if this means there is 2 bushings per side, or just two bushings total (one for each side). Toytec clearly states its one bushing they give per side. Unfortunately they don't say if the bushing is a "poly bushing" or just a cheaper rubber bushing.

I originally felt like the Toytecs were a much better deal, until you figure in that the bushings and driveline spacers would cost almost $50 more to buy separately on top of the Toytec shackles cost. At that point the price difference would only be about $50 difference between the CB and Toytec, with Toytec being the cheaper.

The last advantage I've "heard" about Toytec over CB, is if you are trying to fit a 35" spare under the truck, the Toytec will allow it, while the CB won't.

If I missed anything, feel free to correct me if I am wrong or left something out.

I personally think you can't go wrong with either of these products, and the price difference is almost negligible. If I later decide to do shackles, this will be a tough decision.

To answer your question on the CB bushings, yes it comes with 2 per side.

You have to replace the bushings with the CBs too so it mates up with leafs properly. Popping the stock ones out of the eyelet is a fucking bitch lol.

I ran CB +2s and was able to fit a 35" under the bed. You'll have to cut the guards off regardless in order to fit that size tire

If you want the Toytec bushings the extra pricing is for a pair. Very high quality.Had my Toytec shackles for a couple years now. Zero rust. Not using drive line spacer. No issues there. I like the fact they are adjustable. A great deal. The old bushings are a pain to remove. You can borrow a bushing removal tool from most auto parts stores. Makes it a lot easier. Ditto on calling ToyTec for pricing .

What "guard" are you referring to that you have to cut?

There are two spare tire guides / gaurds under the bed of the truck. You'll have to cut those off if you wanna fit a bigger tire under there

I got bushings for both sides with my Toytec shackles, they’re poly if I remember correctly. I just changed leaves so we didn’t have to pull the stock bushings, we’d of had to burn em out with a torch if using the original leaves lol.

The toytec shackles keep the stock bushings for the top of the shackle where it is mounted to the frame. The replacement bushings that they provide replace the rear leaf spring bushing on both leaf springs.

The bushings from Toytec are supplied by Energy Suspension. They are poly bushings. Energy suspension is the worlds largest manufacturer of performance polyurethane automotive components. http://energysuspension.com/products.html

That is exactly what I was most curious about. Nice to know they are poly as well. I know CB said in a post that one of the bushings from the Toyota factory is the "only poly bushing on the whole truck". I wonder if that is the upper bushing where Toytec chose to keep the factory bushing?

Im pretty sure they are OEM poly. They are two piece that slide in from each side.

i have not had toytec but i do have @Coachbuilder1 units and they are extremely beefy. very well built. not to mention great service. he answered my calls and texts on evenings, weekends etc. David is a stand up guy that is passionate about his products. i also have his steering kit which is fantastic quality as well. he helped me iron out rear leaf springs (ome drakar) as well. great resource!

    You can google this

    3 offerings:
    CB +1 0.625"
    CB +2 1.25"
    CB +3 1.75"

    1 offering:
Toytec 1"- 1.5" depending on holes you use

if you plan on squeezing a big spare tire I would go toytec.

also check MCM fab and Total Chaos shackles. I personally run the MCM fab and they are solid.

Well I just ordered Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 35x12.50r20 so not sure if the counts as a "large tire" or not, but I would guess so. I won't have a 35" spare until I wear these tires out, then I will take the best looking tire and put it under my truck as a spare.

When I bought toytec shackles the cost difference was much more than $50 otherwise I would have gone with Coachbuilders.

Here are prices I just found from reputable online sites:
The CB +3 with poly bushing and carrier bearing is $340
The toytec shackles with poly bushing is $156, the CB carrier bearing drop kit is $14
    $340 - $170 = $170 cost difference

In 2wd, power is at the rear diff. So naturally, you want those tires the same size. If not, you’re probably risking the rear diff, gear teeth, etc.

CL: Craigslist. You can probably pick up a used tire in that size.

Yeah I figured the rear diff wouldnt like that.

Thats a good idea on CL. In fact I have a buddy who works at NTB... Ill bet he could find a worn out (low tread) 35" that they are disposing of and maybe even get it free.

Most folks here are buying aftermarket shackles for strictly lift.
