New frame!!! Fresh start

So I’m getting a new frame and I’m thinking about preventative rust. I know a lot of guys recommend por-15. I used it on my 02 Tacoma. But for those of you who know what I’m talking about it is costly and very time consuming. So I’m looking to see if there might be other options. What do you guys think?

 

Line-X? but it would be a bitch to chase all the mounting holes.

 

I know one should never assume but I would think the new frame is coated better than the original frame. I’m wondering if I just coat it without taking all the mount bolts out it would do any good. Trying to make this truck last another 10-15 years. I have no plans on selling or trade in. It will be used until it breaks in half lol

 

I can tell you from working at a dealership, not Toyota, that just because it is a recall replacement doesn't necessarily mean an updated replacement.

Spray it down with Fluid Film every fall and you'll be good.

 

Look at it this way, it took 11 years to rust out, so you'll at least get that again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will wash truck in 20 degrees and snow accumulation at the end of my driveway to help prevent rust.

 

Did dealership inspect and say you get a new frame?

If so, did they let you leave with truck? I'm just wondering as I'm going to bring mine in soon to be inspected.... Just don't want then them to try and keep it, stereo n all!

 

Yes. It’s recalled so they gave me a new frame and it cost Toyota a little over 14,000. They gave my truck back after inspection and 4 weeks later it was in and replaced in 4 days

Ah ok. In my case I was just wondering if they'd write my truck off rather than fix it. Which is why I thought that they might not let me leave in it if the frame is shot.

 

My rust preventitive is I don't drive it in the winter. I also get it coated in Krown and by a cheap winter car.

 

I don't know how you manage that. Isn't winter like from November 1 to May 1 up there??? Six months of the year in a shit-box?? In terms of "beater", around in my neck of the woods that's a POS you bought for $600 with a bad clutch and a bunch of other problems that you slowly fix up until its reliable, or somewhat reliable lol. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a blizzard in my old pos beater, despite the heat working better than your local funeral home's incinerator. Even if it was 4wd with good tires, I'd have my doubts taking it out in the type of weather you have in Buffalo, get stranded in a snow storm, you die.

 

It's not bad, let it run all night with the heat on and a window cracked. Yes, I have been there. If you don't have a POS car. Then you trade in every 3-4 years for new. It isn't worth putting money into anything because you never keep them long enough. But just long enough to we're all your parts you bought don't fit it. But they are so rusty you don't want them anyways. Time to start all over again

 

Ive fluid filmed mine the last 2 falls. Costs about $20. Not a speck of rust on my frame yet and theres been lots of salt on it.
