Just returned from a +1900 mile trip through NC, PA, and CT. This was a family, friends, and fun trip. This was my daughters first long trip, under 2 years old, and it went really well.

The truck was good. Loaded weight of toyhauler was somewhere around 8000lbs, It's 6600lbs empty. Carried the dirtbike and luggage. Water tank and holding tanks empty.
    -Equilizer WDH.
    -SumoSprings, 1500lbs.
    -Tuff Country AAL, (3/1 lift)
    -Load E tires, 55 front, 75 rear.

I will be honest, there were a few parts of this trip that made me want a 1 ton DRW. Pulling through some of the longer passes in VA and PA were painful, RPM's high, only able to maintain 55mph. On the return trip I was in some really gusty wind for about 3 hours, even with the WDH and reduced speed the trailer was still a handful.

I have a hard time justifying a 1 ton because this is a trip I will only be making once a year with the camper. All other towing is within a 2-5 hour radius.

Looks like you had a great time! Vulcan Iron Works was an early foundry in PA. Great pic! A bit of history there..

What kind of gas mileage did you get?

That pic is from the coal region of PA. I've burned hundreds of gallons of gas in my dual sport bikes between Trevorton, Shamokin, Centralia, Tower City, and Mount Carmel. Each summer when I visit PA I bring whatever bike I currently have, lived in Camp Hill for 5 years, been visiting for 5 more. Been riding that area on-and-off for 10 years, I still find new stuff in the woods and new trails every year. We find everything from abandoned drag lines to hidden caverns that blow a seemingly endless supply of 55 degree air out of the mountainside.

Averaged 6.8 mpg. Gas for the Tundra was the most expensive part of this trip, more than food and beer combined.

Lol. I just got back from a 1630 mile trip pulling the camper from Missouri to the gulf coast and back through Louisiana and through Arkansas. I figure I was between 3500 and 4000 lbs. I averaged 9.4 mpg. I was curious what the difference would be with that much more weight. I too spent more money on gas than beer, food and campgrounds. Beer was expensive down there too.

Crikey, that’s awful! Lol. Have to pay to play I guess. At the end of the day, I’m sure it was worth it.

100% worth it. I require the trailer for all of the toys and luggage as well, no way we could pack it all in the Tundra. I would have doubled the mileage by not pulling the trailer, but then I would have had to pay for 10 nights of hotel rooms, the cost saving there is probably close to $1k. Logistically I just can't travel without the toyhauler anymore, unless it's a shorter trip with no toys.
