Rear sway bar...worth it?

TRD rear sway bar definitely improved body roll during cornering. No noticeable difference in ride comfort over poorly paved roads. Glad I got one. DO IT! Got mine on Amazon.

Don't let my post about the crappy roads deter you - if the roads are paved and aren't THAT bad (a pot hole here and there is nothing) you will be fine. I mean, we have trucks, they ride like trucks and you feel the bumps. If the roads were horrendous and littered w potholes or "washboard" dirt/gravel roads then I would think twice.

To me, the most noticeable difference when I installed the sway bar was at the stop sign at the end of my road and the left turn. It's a sharp turn on to the next road (think 45degree angle not a perpendicular 90degree turn). I would take it slow (from a stop) and it would still feel like the rear corner was up in the air. Now it's much more stable and folk don't have to "hang on" to avoid sliding around the leather seats.

As far as where to buy - if you like your local dealer and like keeping $$ in town - ask your dealer to come down in price if he's high. I told the parts guy at the dealership that I could buy it online for $230 and he came down about $30 from his price and sold one to me for $235. I was more than happy to pay the $5+tax to keep it local.

Got it on today, had an extra set of hands which helped ;) took about a half hour.
Instructions were clear. Would have been nice if they mentioned that if you have a truck with a trailer hitch you'll end up with 4 extra washers. Took me a minute to figure that out.
Toughest part was swinging and holding it up in place while attaching bushing brackets to the U bolts. Having someone hold it would help a lot, I was lucky enough to at least have someone who know what a washer and a nut is, and hand them to me when asked.
I can't wait to take a drive now and see how it handles. I'll retorque everything next week. Upper bolts are 84 ft lbs, lower are 48, and ubolts are 48. I assume they may shift a bit on the first few rides.

Let us know what you think. I was also confused when I had washers left over.

LOVE the swim goggles...sounds like something my daughter would do

I need to find time to install mine this weekend, along with the TRD exhaust and S&B intake.

No plans for the front. From what I've read it's a marginal improvement.

Your bar sits quite a bit higher up in comparison with the rear diff. Are you lifted? Or lowered? I also see you have SUA leafs

So did you install shorter end link to keep the bar up above the pumpkin?

Good eye Ron, I see it now. What's the advantage to doing this other than getting it to sit higher? Does it perform better? I'm curious if I should do this as well.
    Thanks guys, you're awesome

    Yes.

    Correct.

The leaf spring packs are relocated under the axle, so the bar must be positioned higher on the axle and above the leaf springs... this makes the shorter end links necessary. It is tight, corners very well without body roll and lane changes are crisp even at higher speeds. I lowered it the least amount possible, and I am using factory length rear shocks. The front remains all stock.

Put on about 100 miles the last few days and I have to say I really like it. Really tightened up the truck, body roll is so much better. The truck feels lighter going through turns. So far so good.

How big of a PITA is this to put on and take off? I'm on the road 90% of the time but would like to take it off when I go off-roading. The place I like to go is really rocky and I need the articulation.

It took about a half hour to do it all. So not bad at all. It's possible you could just unfold lower mounts or make up some kind of quick disconnect system.

Check with Hellwig, they may have a quick disconnect system for their rear bar that fits the Tundra.

Thanks, I'll have to look into a quick-disconnect setup when I get around to doing this one.
