Yes, I’m very thankful. Letting them go alone was something my wife and I really struggled with. Ultimately we decided we have to allow it at some point. She’s almost 21, and she’s been driving since she was 16. She goes to college two hours away, so she has experience making that drive, along with everywhere else she has to go. She’s driven to Dallas before for competitions, so we figured it was time to give it a shot.

Oh, I was thinking she was younger.
Concerts are hell down here. Gets super packed... at least the few I’ve been to.
Driving through Dallas is way worse though.. so many interchanges that split the freeway down the middle... better triple check that you’re in the correct lane.... and if there’s any traffic? Talk about stressful... my sister lives up there in Allen. It was a night mare when we first drove to her house in Frisco.

Thanks for your words. Yes, the other driver was ok. Really glad it happened down there instead of on a faster road. (Happened right by Minute Maid Park).

First question I asked was if she was looking at her phone, following gps or something. Both girls said it wasn’t the case. I can’t know for sure, but they’ve always been very conscious of distracted driving in my experience. They get pretty upset when they see someone else do it.
Downtown Houston is pretty overwhelming for someone who isn’t used to it. I struggle with it myself when I make a rare trip there. She’s driven to the Galleria with her mom with her, so we have seen her in similar situations.
She was mainly worried about us being angry with her. I reassured her that it didn’t cross our minds. Things happen, all of us have been there. The main thing was that they were ok. Cars are replaceable.

Her sister is nearly 17. No way we’d have let her try. I get worried enough when she goes to Humble. (At least she has a Tundra though, so it’s definitely comforting to know she’d have to take a serious hit to get hurt.)

Sounds like you guys have the right attitude about it! Hopefully I’ll beable to keep my Stoic disposition as my kids start to drive... I’ve got some time yet.

Thank you sir. Gotta say it’s a horrible feeling when you’re sitting at home worried about them, then she calls you crying.

My daughter is 20 and just started driving, I worry about her all the time. She just drives locally to college and now she wants to drive 1 hour away and on the highway to do a work study for school. I'm having a hard time even thinking about this.
I totally know what you are feeling.

It’s the hardest thing in the world letting go with the kids. You know you have to, but I don’t think it’ll ever get easy. Anytime an accident is reported anywhere near us, my mother in law calls us to see if we’re ok. I always laugh about it, but I do get it.

I nearly had one this morning on the highway. Some clown decided they were going the wrong way and pulled over three lanes and and stopped, and was sticking out on the the left lane. Had to slam on the anchors and missed him by a few inches. Saw him then cut across the grass to the other side. No cops around unfortunately

Wishing them a speedy and complete recovery, and glad it was relatively minor.

Don’t beat yourself up over it though - it’s too easy to do that with no good coming from it. Hindsight is always 20/20, and coulda/shoulda/woulda’s are always there too.

Sure glad everyone is ok. A few years ago my wife and daughter got in a bad accident and when she called me it was the longest drive I have ever made and it was only 15 miles away.
