guys and gals, I have had so many mixed responsed to this question.

I am looking at different coil over options for my '17 tundra with an 8" readly lift. I have aftermarket UCAs already. stock shocks and coils in the front.

I have heard the strut will need to be taken out? doesnt make sense if its in there now and not effecting my stock shocks.

can I just swap out the stocks for a pair of after market coils?

makes sense because the readylift retains majority factory parts up front.

    please enlighten me....

I mean they seem to be available, and adjustable. but I don't see where those companies differentiate from stock height to 8" lift.

You'll need to call for a custom build. They'll probably ask for a few measurements and your goals for the truck and build to that.

There seems to be some confusion here, the factory coilover that is in your truck with a preload spacer and top mount spacer will be removed and replaced by a complete coilover it will come with a new spring & shock absorber. You shouldn't reuse any of the factory coilover pieces except maybe the bolts. The new coilover will be full length and not require the reuse of either of the Readylift front spacers. Tundras have coilovers, not struts, struts are on cars. Struts actually replace the upper control arm as the component that controls the top of the tire. You maybe getting some mixed info because people are calling the same part two different names.

This image shows the difference between a strut and a coilover. While similar, they are different. Strut on left, coilover on right.

yes the spacer (about 4-6" in length) is what I was referring to.
Im being told readylift 8" will need a custom coil like @trayday mentioned above. apparently they have super tight turn radius and the tie rods will hit the coils.

there are some icon 58650 for sale near me and I wanted to look into them. but it seems like this is probably not going to be feasible. that is why I was asking if I can just swap it out and leave the spacer in.

Most people want to get away from the spacer, it does more harm than good. The cost of a custom length setup isn't much more than a factory length design.

I'm gonna go coilovers here soon, really hoping the Fox's will fit so I don't have to buy new rear shocks. A guy I work with just put them on his Zone lift, so I'm gonna do some measuring and see.

I think the biggest issue with the question is that there just aren't as many trucks running the readylift 8".

@Cuzican @trayday what about if I just swapped out the spacer for new shocks? I should be able to retain factory springs and the shock (6-8") would take place of the spacer? maybe add some shims?

I dont think thats possible. The spring would be useless if it opened up.like that. Thats why coilovers need to replace spacer and shock. Did u try calling the big companies? Icon has some specs already and if they dont you will need to get the some measurements.

yeah ive gotten a shit ton of different answers. apparently when you install the readylifts, you have a to swap the driver side and passenger side tie rods. the readylift has a very weird turn radius. anyway, you need to swap the tie rods back to factory and aftermarket coils will rub against the tie rods if the alignment isn't perfect.

seems more difficult than it should be.

thatll be a badass setup. i guess ill just have to have some custom ones made.

just amazes me that stock coils will fit on this lift but after market, non-adjustables wont. even if they were adjustable and i left them at the lowest adjustment, how could they not fit? lol

must have different geometry than the 8" readylift. i wanted fox coils but the shop said the spacer would give me problems and i might actually lose some lift taking it out

Are u wanting to put coil overs with the spacer on it?
The whole point of coilovers is to remove the spacer. Have u tried a different shop?

i don't really care if the spacer is on or not. i just need all the clearance i can get with my 14 wide wheels. (i was asking about the spacer cause there is a guy here locally selling icons for dirt cheap lol they are for stock suspension though)

anywho, ive talked to about 3 shops, all with different answers

That is why you get custom length shocks for a big lift. I have a Pro Comp 7" lift. I went to Filthy Motorsports to get my custom King shocks. They will have you take all the measurements and when you receive your custom shocks the spacer goes away and your truck will be at the same height it was with the spacer. Take notes and measure everything as it is now. Ground to center of fender etc. When you order your shocks they will ask you if you are good with that height or do you want to go higher or lower. Do your research and good luck. Check out my build thread to see what I have on my truck.
