Who do people love Mobil1 on this forum?

I have been around forums since 2003 and it is the most hated oil as it disappears from engines especially from turbocharged ones as they run hotter. All you have to do is go to bobistheoilguy.com where they break down oils and do lab tests. Just don't understand. it, but I guess it is all in the marketing. I stopped using M1 along time ago and never going back to piss oil.

 

What are you using?

 

I've never heard anything bad about mobil1, but then again i've never gone looking....

 

I assume “bob” is the foremost authority on oil? “Piss” oil?

Perhaps instead of just wondering why so many here use “piss oil” you could post some facts and documentation so that we could make a more informed decision.

 

Been paying others to change the 02’ Tundra oil for 16 years and never really sure what oil brand it is that they put in her. Just bought some Mobil 1 ‘’Advanced Full Synthetic’ and will be changing the oil in about 4k miles. Will let you know how it goes.

All of the broken down Tundras I have seen along the road must be using Mobil 1. ...THAT explains it...

I went with Mobil 1 because I can pull it off the shelf at Costco at a discount.

 

It is particularly bad in high compression engines as it is thinner than others and you will lose more than other oils of compared viscosity. Not to mention how many people throw out bearings in turbocharged cars using it.

No need to get your panties in a bunch. And yes, that is a FORUM just like this one, but instead of cars, attention is given to oil. When was the last time you saw how your oil is doing by doing a lab test? If you haven't, then you don't know how it is doing in your truck and when you should change your oil. A Blackstone lab test only costs $28 per analysis. Haven't done a lab test yet on the Tundra but will as soon as the miles rack up and will do my first oil change on it. The information is out there. I'm sure you are a grown man and doesn't need spoon-feeding.

So, you take a magazine word's for it? Got it. Most mags nowadays are paid and not credible. A lab test, well, that I can honor.

Seems High comp. engine owners should use a thicker oil or higher viscosity.....

Many folks on here have done the Blackstone test. I’ve never seen a bad result posted using M1.

 

Seems ‘bob’ likes ‘selling’ Pennzoil. Read his web page here about viscosity and it dispells the OP’s argument/premise.

Yes, I figured I would post some literate to read since you didn’t. You just came out and said MOBIL 1 is dog shit without providing any evidence to back it up.

Near as I can tell Posrsche, Corvettes, and other high end vehicles factory fill with it. Very strange they would protect vehicles that high end with “piss”.

If it is causing all of these issues will you please provide some documentation?

 

We will have to wait till he changes his Tundra oil for the first time and has it tested before we know the ‘truth’.

 

I do need spoon feeding. I did some research and other than a couple random Subura guys saying that they had excessive consumption (which other guys on the forum said they were not experiencing) I couldn’t find anything to support the fact that Mobil 1 is a shitty oil.

 

I have been a Porsche tech since 2005. The 2 dealers that I have worked for have used Mobil 1 and only Mobil 1. I have not seen nor heard of an engine failure that was attributed to using Mobile 1.

 

That’s whats odd. Toyota doesn’t factory fill with Mobil 1 do they?

 

Its seems from my experience that many people are ‘know it all’s’ these days. They come on the internet (I also deal with them in personal face to face contact) and spout off stuff they read about on the internet (mostly disinformation).

When in person, you call them out on their ‘bs’ (real world knowledge) they break into psycho babbles (talking in circles without a real conclusion).

When on the internet, they slide away without being seen again. In this case, I’ve used ‘bobs’ own quotes that the OP is railing against (while using ‘bob’ as his source). Its tricky out there folks.

Joonbug above says he has had his Mobil1 tested with no problems. The OP has yet to test his?

 

Have known of many vehicles go 300-400k miles attributed to M1 and normal maint.

 

Any modern engine oil, including white label brands like Supertech (Walmart) will be just fine on standard intervals. I typically use Mobil 1 and Pennzoil as they are the ones that go on sale in my area regularly.

The only oil I'm not a fan of is AMSOIL, not because of the product but the shills.

And I do on my other car. I don't have plans to supercharge the Tundra, but sure as hell won't be running M1.

Reading comprehension. Try actually reading the OP.

Manufacturers have their reasons, but you are also HIGHLY assuming that what they fill up their engines is also the same as what you buy in store. I know of this, as I used to buy specifically a Castrol 0W-30 that was made in Germany, and it was one of the best in lab tests. I believe they stopped importing it here. I don't know if M1 has a European formula in US, but it might outperform any others.
