How many swap out wheels but run stock tires...

I've had my tundra now for about 6 months and I thought the TRD wheels would grow on me, but I really like the all black look. I'm debating between picking up some new wheels or powdercoating the trd wheels. Got me wondering though, I see so many people on here that swap out tires and wheels, and some that swap out just tires, but does anyone run the stock Michelins on after marker wheels.

 

My truck came with 20 inch black rims and the BFG 285 55 r20's so im happy with my tires and wont change until these tires need replacing

 

Nothing wrong with the stock tires but they just look boring to me.

 

I vote aftermarket. You can get a little more aggressive offset and improve the stance. When I see stock Tundra wheels now they look a little weak to me. But, if you’re going to go aftermarket or even powder coat you need to remove the tire so if you can swing it I say get a more aggressive looking tire to round it out.

I sold my wheels and tires with 8,000 on them as a set for 1100. They were gone within 5 hours of posting and that will get close to covering tires.

Also remember that if you change tire size it would be wise to get a spare in the same size. I bought a cheaper AT spare for 130 bucks and had them mount it up.

 

Biggest problem is most aftermarket wheels are wider than the stock wheels and the stock tires are a little on the skinny side for 9” wide wheels.

 

Do you stick with an 18” wheel or step up to the 20”

 

I run 18s.

 

Wheel size is mostly just preference in looks. But the 18’s will have a better and softer ride, especially if you Offroad your truck. Not to mention the tires are generally cheaper. On cars, I like bigger wheels with low profile tires. But on trucks, I definitely think smaller wheels with meaty tires look way better. Most important thing when choosing a wheel is the offset.

 

I swapped out both. Just didn't like the looks of the TRD wheels, plus I wanted a different stance. I needed a better offroading tire for when I am hunting. For now the truck is a dd, but one day it won't, and then it will get a new suspension and slightly larger tire
