Palm polisher

Hey guys I just remembered I have a older palm polisher / buffer. Is this something I could or should use on my truck if I get some new bonnets for it? I wanna do a full detail and am trying to decide if I should add I a step of polishing or buffing out some swirls.
I really don't have the cash to go out and buy a new da polisher so I'd like to use this or maybe do it by hand this time around.
Also what kind of polish or swirl remover should I use?
I plan to decon, polish, then apply hydro2 and/or reload after.
These are very fine swirls only visible in direct sunlight, almost looks like spider webs at times.

 

I imagine it’ll do ok, especially if it’s all minor stuff. It’s not going to do the job a da will, but I’d think you’ll see some definite improvement on your paint. It certainly won’t hurt it.

I’m still in the beginning stages of learning to compound and polish, so somebody else can probably answer the question about what polish to use. I have seen Meguair’s Ultimate Polish recommended a good bit. It’s cheap and easy to find. Wal-Mart and most auto parts places carry it. I’ve done a couple of panels on my wife’s truck with it, and it seemed to do well.

I’m actually hoping to find a couple of fenders or hoods at a junkyard so I can do a lot of practice.

 

I was thinking of getting megs swirlX or their ultimate polish.
I think the issue with the palm polisher is that it runs at low rpm. I found some DA polishers at harbor freight for $50-70 that I may try out if I can find some reviews.
I would love to get the swirls out and get it sealed up. Maybe if I get good at it I'll look into ceramic at some point. Free time is my enemy so who knows if I'll ever get around to that.

 

I have the Harbor Freight DA polisher. It works very well, no issues. I did end up upgrading to a Torq because I had some gift cards, but that Harbor Freight one is just fine.
