Love for 1st Gen Tundra

I read this a couple weeks before I bought mine and completely agreed with the author.

I've had a taco, 1/2 tons, and just sold a 2500HD.

 

Thanks for posting. Read about 200 of the comments. My take aways from those that commented that actually owned a 1st Gen:
1) high reliability compared to domestics
2) great engine on the V-8
3) perfect mid sized (for a ‘full size’ truck)
4) better than a Taco (roomier and more power)
5) high torque
6) high resale value (article was 2015?)
7) better payload than newer Tundras

 

Had one for 15 years, never skipped a beat and still going strong.

 

Love my '05.

 

I've been driving my '02 since '04, it's never let me down.

 

I picked up mine for cheap because it had "high" miles according to the original owners wife. Runs like a banshee and doesn't leak a drop of oil. I had to post a pick when I saw Rex's!

Oh I know... I just like your choice of factory rims.

Edit: your original rims are fairly rare. I've never seen them. At least out here.

 

Part of me wishes I got a long bed to haul my sled but I love the extra cab space.

 

Those are Enkei rims that are pretty common in the south east.
A couple sets are for sale in the Atlanta CraigsList.

 

The parts guy at my dealership explained how Toyota used to contract out their wheels through Enkei in parts of the southeast. That's why some of the oem wheels have that little symbol instead of the Toyota symbol.

 

My '96 T100 also had factory Enkei alloys.

 

I loved mine. I bought it back in 2000 when they first came out and just recently sold it to a coworker because I got a new one. Didn't have a problem selling it either. Mentioned I was going to sale it at work and had 3 coworkers give me an offer. I kept up with the required maintenance and during the 18 years only had to replace 2 oxygen sensors and 2 spark plug coils. That's it. Even the brake pads lasted to about 80K before they needed replacement. I am hoping the new one treats me so well.
