Cheap Audio Upgrade

Just seen this on another Tundra forum. Looks like a reasonable audio upgrade for a CM without the JBL premium system.

For the price, that actually looks like a decent deal.

 

That is what I was thinking. Since I have the JBL Premium system I had to fork out almost 1200.00 for an upgrade.

 

You get what you pay for. I can imagine your system is very well balanced and crisp.

I'm a little afraid that 350w to a sub in a ported box, while pumping power into the non jbl paper cone POS speakers is going to make a bit of a mess

ID isn't a big name, but that doesn't mean they aren't a good speaker.
I still have my reservations about their amplifiers. I'd like to see someone crack one open and see the internals.

This setup will probably work for 90% of the people on here that complain about the stock system.

The amps produce crisp clear highs and awesome bass. WE keep getting people asking how are they so small, they can’t be good etc . . but actually they are bad ass. AND if you look around you will see that many audio companies are shrinking their amps as well. Newer Class D technology has created amps that are nearly 98% efficient vs older style Class D amps at around 80% efficiency. It is a site to see when you see an old school guy like myself, get in a Tundra for a demo and they FREAK out on the SQ and SPL from such a tiny device. Keep in mind many older guys are accustomed to huge class A/B amps that lose 50% of their power to heat – hence monster heat sinks / amps.

We waited until Class D amps were ready before we jumped on board. The first two rounds had many issues, but now many are moving to these newer amps. Over time you will see the big guys move in this direction. They have to dump older inventory and recoup marketing dollars on previous models before they can move on. Plus you are going to see many new features built in to amps. We are already working to have Bluetooth integration that will allow us to help customers tune their amps via their mobile phone. Soon the days will be gone where you set your amps gain, xovers & hpf/lpf with knobs. There are a few guys at the “bleeding” edge on this already, but we will wait until the technology and cost are “doable” Most customers don’t want to pay 3X the price on an amp just because you save turning a few knobs.

It is unfortunate to many equate name / brand as the “best”. . .it makes me chuckle when folks say their (*********) amps are made in China . . . these amps are made in the same factory as some of the VERY popular names on the market. Sorry to say, but that vast majority of 12V is made in China. Read the fine print; Assembled in the US (with Chinese parts) – Assembly can me they boxed them here and placed a label on them, but they were made in China. Or my favorite is “engineered” in the US. Yes, but in most cases working with a Chinese engineer.

The issue in working with China is going with a manufacturer that uses good parts and has lots of history. We actually could have gone really cheap and been pumping out some really low end amps. But chose to use quality parts and manufacturing. The result has been ASTOUNDING . . the industry average for 12V failure is 5%. We have had less than .05% failure rate.

Many of our return customers have had VERY spendy / high end gear in their vehicles. And they tell us alllll the time . they can’t believe the $ to bang ratio. I love to see peoples face when they spent 3x the money and their system MIGHT sound a bit better against one of our systems.

Flipside there is some very nice equipment out there that costs 3 and 4x the money. But 99% of people are not trying to win competitions they just want amazing sound at a great price. There is not much out there that will compete with the System 1s bang for buck.

BTW, quite a few customers have STARTED with the stock speakers and been very happy. I would say 1 - 30 that are just looking for better sound do not upgrade the door speakers . . if that is the case, not best practice but we wll crossover the sub at around 160hz to help the stock speakers out.

The Sub I have is 750 RMS....the amp is 900 RMS and it is pretty small that is there compact version

 

Thanks for dropping some info on us Rob. I corrected a typo in my post about ID not being a big name. I meant to say that just because they are not a big name doesn't mean that they aren't a good speaker. I've seen them in a couple different builds, but just never in person.

Thx man! It is a huge hit with or local customer base already. We generally test all products on local guys for a few months in advance, check for any install bugs or issues so we can address before we begin shipping around the US. The local guys love the killer deal for being a "tester" . . and we get to test our products in real world install situations with light bars, power steps etc etc . .

We have a setup similar to this, not as much airspace because it fits behind the seat of 2014+ Toyota Tundra. We are using an IDQ12 @850 watts RMS. One of my personal faves!

 

what upgrades are available for the 2014 dbl cab , in the budget range yet better than stock ?

But it will be around $75 more than the CrewMax.

 

So the sub will be under the seat and all bolts and fastners will be using existing holes , (no drilling) hate to make such changes.

in that video are they down firing subs and if so I guess the box is raised a lil off the floor ?

 

There are some spacers under the box. I will see if I can find a pic and post it.

 

when you put together a kit I'm all in , was gonna do it all my self but I like plug and play much better.

so when you do a package/kit it will include door speakers that are an upgrade over factory as well? What about head unit do I go and change that to this is very basic without navi , thanks.

I just bought this exact system, With the front and rear components. It comes with everything you need and after waiting for delivery and thinking I was going to second guess my purchase, I am actually really impressed with the sound quality it added. I did purchase thier processor harness and added an audiocontrol dq-61in between head unit and amps. Audiocontrols dq-61 is very similar to ********* Recurve. I also added a seperate amp for the subwoofer to add more control to the processor. I did listen to it with just the 5ch amp hooked to the sub and it sounded very good. I did the install my self and also dynamatted the whole interior front and rear doors rear panel and the whole floor board.

In my very honest opinion, this system is worth the price with shipping in all with the starter system and front rear doors components, the AC dq-61 jl audio amp for the sub and dynamatting, I probably spent 1700total and have a very good sounding (at all volumes) system. I will say you are going to wait 3 + months for this order and in my case longer because of a mix up(but they were quick to make me happy with upgrades to the door speakers.) I give this system a 10/10 for price and quality of sound.
