This is what we are battling here in CO. We have high risk scenarios, sending in the brave firefighters, and expect them to play God and perform miracles.

Colorado is a highly visited, tourism state. I actually fear for some of these tourists not knowing exactly where they are and how fast these fires move. Our first responders do an excellent job of warning families and help them get to safety.

One of my co-workers lost a family cabin last night in the the High Chateau fire burning about 1 hour west of Colorado Spring. This fire was started by a cigarette and was totally preventable.

2 diff kinds of fighting fire right there. No SCBA and barely any PPE for wildland fires. God bless them all.

Ah, plenty of single track for you to enjoy. I’ll have to shoot you a PM of some of my favorite areas to go. Remind me before you come out so you get the best experience.

I think maybe you are misinterpreting the climate change comment. Our weather patterns change and go through cycles, and people see conditions never seen before. For example, I had the privilege of being raised in Montana. I never really appreciated that little fact until living/visiting all over this great nation...and some real shitholes in the world. Anyway, to my point. When I was younger, we would get mass amounts of snow, rain, short summers, and that’s just how it was. It was not uncommon to have snow coverage most of the winter and cold. I left MT in 93’, and we had already started getting less snow and rain then ever before. One of my favorite ski resorts is Redlodge, and we called it Rockdodge for a reason. Within a few short years, I was able to come home in the middle of the winter in a sports car. This continued until this last winter. 24 plus years of low precipitation. This was a climate cycle/change (drought) that I have never seen in my home state.
I was driving through CO in 97’, fresh out of the military with absolutely no plans but to drink beer and have fun. I decided to stop for a few nights in June, and never left. Since then, we have had such a huge swing in our weather. We used to get monsoon rains in the afternoon like clockwork. Cool things down a bit and things were really green. I have only had a white Christmas twice since 97. I lived at 6100’ of elevation and no weather. In the short amount of time living at 7550’ of elevation off the Palmer Divide, I’m getting schooled real quick. I look around at my neighbors and they have much larger snow removal equipment than I do (We have a 44” auger snowblower attached to a lawn tractor). Last winter, we didn’t get anything I would brag about up here. I used a small plastic snow shovel for all removal. The neighbors said it was one of the worst winters for snow. So we may be in for it. Who knows.

Anyway, that is what I beleive they are meaning through climate change, more so climate cycles.

No doubt right? Disregard those home listings I sent you on Facebook this morning. Lmao.

On a serious note, I’m very careful when going into the mountains to have multiple exits. There are places in CO with one way in/out. Crested Butte is a breathtaking area. It also has very limited access.

I will be in the Southwest corner mostly. Fires still burning around Durango. Still a lot of places nearby including Moab.

Check out Fruita, CO. It’s up by Grand Junction. Good stuff right there. 1.5 hours from Moab as well.

    Like a Boss.

That last one I wasn’t joking about. It’s a nice slice of property for the area. The other ones you would need to own a HD. Damn expensive. My neighbor across the street just sold his house and land for 1M. :spending:

3 different types of fire aircraft have been flying over today. If I remember correctly they take on fuel here then booty down to Canyon City to take on fire retardent.

Yep, Carson and Santa Fe are under stage 3. You can't even enter them. People still do, and they are passing out tickets left and right.

Rough summer. They decided to cancel the fireworks this year - but they didn't make that call until about a week ago. I am glad that they aren't going to do it. They also closed all of the fireworks shops down.

Be safe up there. I am hoping to head up and climb a mountain near Lake City next Friday. Last I checked, the forest was still open, but I will keep my eye out.

Approx, 25 min race tracks. I'm out side watching the grill, that is the only reason I know this.

Illegal immigrant is arrested for 'starting dozens of wildfires in Colorado that forced hundreds to evacuate and destroyed 38,000 acres of land', as video shows blaze rapidly engulfing one of the many decimated homes
Jesper Joergensen, 52, was taken into custody last Saturday for the suspected arson that started the Springs Fire, according to Costilla County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Large chunks of AZ are under strict fire restrictions, too. Apparently we have these things called trees in certain spots. And they don't regularly try to kill you like just about everything else here.

People are being charged with these wild fires.

Young people, but should know better.

Investigators determine Chateau Fire was caused by unattended campfire; three arrested

    (Via FOX21 News)

These two idiots were shooting gun with tracer rounds. Hell, they should have just spread gas all over the field and lit a match.

Two people facing felony charges in connection to Lake Christine Fire http://www.koaa.com/story/38603342/...-charges-in-connection-to-lake-christine-fire

NW Wyoming is pretty green right now. No fire restrictions. This pic is from a trail near my house. Been lucky the past few seasons EFBE0522-BF35-4126-8574-71F522417720.jpgF1EF99EE-2272-4298-8AC8-8720BE41C2E3.jpg

I was fishing Beartracks Lake below Mt Evans 2 weeks ago and the open fire restriction was in place, there was a nice couple from Texas enjoying their campfire, I told them of the open fire restriction and he immediately got un-nice and confidently told me no one really enforces it. I asked him if he enjoyed walking through the burned area on his way to the lake which occurred in 1998 and was human caused. We did not exchange any pleasantries after that but I did notice the fire was out when I left later that day....

I know that sometimes I can be a functional retard, but I am pretty observant.
Just about everything around here this year is brown.
There hasn't been much rain, everything is brown
    It is windy
    It is hot
    Everything is brown
Cracks in the ground, not much water, everything is brown.
Let's make a fire, there's all kinds of dead fall around because everything is brown.
Freaking meat puppets....I'll get off of my stump now. Sorry for the observations from a functional retard.

I would have called it in. F them. It really pisses me off when people come from other states and think the rules are for everyone else but them. We don’t need any help with stupid in Colorado...we have that mastered just fine.

Either this year or early next year I will be in the mountains a lot more with a dirt bike. I caught so many people over the years illegally shooting, dumping, or having fires when they shouldn’t that the Pike National forest rangers knew me by name. I gave the people the chance to either stop what they were doing first. I usually got the “f off and mind your own business” and that is exactly what I did. Called the rangers and minded my own business, and usually laughed my ass off when they were getting fines. The illegal dumping is what pisses me off the most, and of course they are Coloradans. Smart phones have made this so much easier.
