1st Gen Tundra Rear Axle Swap Advice... Rusted in New England

Hi All, got an '01 Tundra SR5 Access Cab V8 with a 3.9 4x4 and ABS that's seen better days. The frame is literally brand new, but the rear axle is extremely corroded.

I'm looking for a good axle down south, but a lot of the Tundra's I come across are the 4x2 rwd variety.

Would a complete rear axle off of a 4x2 3.9 ABS rear axle swap right into mine?

I don't mid a little bit of modification, but I'm also not trying to undergo major surgery for a car that's mostly used for ski trips to VT. Only 165k on it and its runs like a beast otherwise.

I dont see why it wouldn’t swap right in as long as it has the 3.93 like yours.

 

Thanks Casper -- just wasn't sure if anything might have been different on the driveshaft flanges, etc. I'm not really a pickup-guy (only had Land Cruisers / LX470s) so I thought I might ask folks a bit more familiar

 

Depending on the condition, you may want to change your carrier bearing and have your propellor shaft joints replaced or at the minimum grease the zerks.

 

Yea for sure about all that. I just wasn't sure if there was any significant difference between a rear axle from the 4x2 V8 Tundra 3.9 ratio and a 4x4 V8 Tundra 3.9 ratio.
Because this really opens up my options for me since there's 4x2 rust free axles all over the south
