I got the concept, and agree, BUT, running a fridge off a single battery with a square wave inverter is extremely inefficient. I would have to run my semi ( 4x BIG batteries) to power a microwave and a small dorm fridge would drain the batteries down to the voltage cutoff by morning. Inverters waste a lot of power just converting from DC-AC and not getting a good sine wave out of the inverter is hard on the electronics. Now one of the thermoelectric coolers would work great. So yes, putting a monster battery in a truck box would be a pain, but beats having two small batteries shoehorned under the hood. But, you're money, you're truck. ( I also didn't list all the items to be used together, each was it's own option)

Question, what size inverter are you using to power the fridge?

No inverter needed. There are plenty of 12v options out there. I personally have an ARB fridge/ freezer. For my intended use, aux batteries mounted in the bed made the most sense.

Actually I don't think you get the concept. No one is talking about inverters and AC power. This isn't an RV. We're talking about 12V DC which is what your car uses. You can run LEDs, winches, fridges, and power USB accessories using 12V DC which covers about 90% of what people want to use and power during trips. Using a Group 25 battery you could run a 12V DC fridge like an ARB, Dometic, Engel, National Luna, Snowmaster etc etc for 3-4 days before needing a charge, more than enough for the weekend warrior. Do a little research my friend because I think you're missing the ENTIRE point of a dual battery system and what type of current is actually used in automotive accessories.

Just when I am looking into getting a fridge for my truck and this pops up. Perfect! I was always having to wonder about battery issue. To keep in the back of my head that two battery would be more easier to sleep at night than 1.

Thanks for the write up. This is great and what I have been looking for. I also have not had any success with Yota Beast. Will book mark their site for future mod.:spending:

I find it odd that their website doesn't work anymore because I did purchased the X-Faktr dual compressor mount from them and everything went super smooth without having to contact them. Item was shipped out same day. Hopefully things are okay on their end.

So it's not only me :playball:. I have been looking at their setup also and reached out to @SoCalDave, but never heard back from anyone. Unfortunately I have already bought the ACR and manual switch, so need to figure out how to utilize them with the tray.

Actually, FRIEND, I do get the concept. Initially I stated that I didn't think the $$ value was worth it. I stated that I felt there were better option's out there. Didn't tell the OP how he should spend his money. Mostly what I seen of the names you listed were of RV fridges and Thermoelectic coolers. Haven't seen a large fridge that is DC. I've got a good sized Colman that works good, but it is also thermoelectric.

I use an arb element fridge that can run ac or dc. It’s really low wattage and efficient. I have the arb wiring kit for full time dc.

The 1000 watt inverter idle i got, is less than 600ma.

Stop twisting what I'm saying and stay on topic. I listed those fridges because 1) They can run off 12 VDC 2) They are not RV fridges 3) They are not Thermoelectric coolers. They are FRIDGES and have compressors 4) It's the main reason why anyone would want a dual battery system in their Tundra, to run a fricken fridge

    Hmmm 12 Volt fridges...

I'm not sure what else I can tell you. You're clearly missing the point and don't understand why and how somehow would want a 12VDC fridge and dual battery system in their truck.

Do I owe you money, or did I back into your truck? I stated my opinion to start with and you seem to have taken it as a attack. I got why someone would want a dual battery system. I've even looked into them. I just thought that the OP's system was expensive and that there might be cheaper options. Go ahead and do what you want with your tundra. I'm tired of you thinking I don't understand. You just ain't worth the effort to deal with.

Looked at some of the ARB models. Do you think it is worth the $$$. Looks well built. Is your's the freezer and fridge?

Personally I think it is worth it. The ARB can be a fridge or freezer but is not dual zone. About a year ago I took my wife and 4 year old camping for the first time. We were out in the Mojave Desert for 2 days. All of my ice melted and all of our food was saturated with water. Bought a fridge right after that trip. I keep my fridge in the truck and turned on most of the time. We use the truck on the weekends and I always have cold drinks, milk for my son, and food. I even use it when we go to Costco. I no longer have to go straight home after going to the market.

Wow dude, I didn't want to chime in here but you are clearly ignorant on this topic. You've never even heard of ARB fridge/freezes until this thread! Ignorant and arguing because they think they are experts is probably the worst type of person on any online forum.

Go read up on expedition portal. ARB, Dometic, Engel, ...

i have the xfaktr tray. not installed yet though. it's well built just like his compressor mount which i do have installed. i'll be using the ibs system with a pair of odyssey batteries. you can find info on the tray at the yota beast site. someone mentioned that earlier i think.

I run an AGM 27 for my main battery and have run it down where the truck wouldn't start while off-road so the need for a second battery was justified in my case. It died because my relay failed and wasn't charging my second battery. I have since replaced the relay with a Blue Sea ACR, moved it inside the cab as I suspect the heat killed it under the hood and have a 50ah LIPO battery but thinking i may add my second LIPO 40ah battery for a total of 90ah. Run my fridge, usb chargers, camp lights and water pump off of the second battery.

My goal would be to have enough juice for 2 full pulls with my winch, under load with the engine not running. Probably never have a fridge or lots of lights.
I’m imagining being stalled in a creek or stream, for instance.
I’ve actually gotten so cautious and risk-averse that we would probably never need it but I always have liked being prepared more than going for help!

Wow, glad you chimed in. I guess since I had the opinion in the beginning that it was a expensive setup and I thought there was a cheaper alternative to power everything. Never claimed I was a expert, Just thought that using a inverter was very inefficient to power items. Using a DC system was not what was originally stated by the OP. Just was talking about dual battery setup. But, since you are all knowing, I'll go ahead and just accept that you are a genius of all things and I'm just a lowly. Glad that the Internet forums are policed by people like you so ignorant people like me have someone to look up to. Thank you for being so great. Atleast you added to the topic by calling another member Ignorant.

They are amazing. I have the elements which can be left in the truck bed. It’s weatherproof. Like above, it can be used as a freezer or a fridge but not both at the same time.

Its why I looked elsewhere. SoCal wasn't even replying on here so I'm sure they may have a legitimate excuse. The genesis is a no brainer though. Aside from drilling, Its plug and play. I literally have crap for mechanical skills and it was super easy.

I am looking into picking one of these up but am curious if anybody knows how much you need to run your truck on a daily basis to keep both batteries topped off.

I drive 10 miles a day during the week but longer trips most weekends.

I don’t have any plans to get a fridge anytime soon, but likely will have off road lights, ham radio and possibly a winch
