Installed a K&N cold air intake today

Install a k&n cold air today

 

I just purchased a 2012 Tundra and it has the same K&N air intake installed. Wheelertrd, after you installed your intake, did it amplify/increase the sound that your exhaust makes? My Tundra is very loud, to the point that anytime I accelerate it makes a lot of noise. I think I've narrowed it down to the exhaust, but if it's the intake causing it, I'll look to replace it with the stock air intake. Thanks...

 

IF YOU WANT TO REPLACE THAT K&N SYSTEM WITH THE FACTORY ONE LET ME KNOW... the intake does make a lot of noise!

 

I have contemplated installing one of these on my 2004 Tundra but wondered whether or not it would actually benefit my truck any. They are not cheap and question whether they provide any additional horsepower or fuel efficiency. I am adding a performance muffler this coming Monday to add some wanted sound to it but don't want it too loud if that is something that this will do.

 

Food for thought the intakes for this truck does no benefit or any bolt on for that matter unless you you change the parameters which can be done with a piggy back but make sure your warranty is up because it will leave a foot print.

 

The reason none of the companies that are making CAIs for these trucks won't post dyno results to back up their claims of increased HP, is because they don't. In fact some guys complain that they may have lost some HP. There is a lot of good info on some other tundra forums about CAIs. I would suggest reading that info before wasting money on a CAI.

 

And if you look at it the K&N looks more like a hot air intake. I had one on a few previous vehicles. If you notice your stock airbox sucks in cold air from the fender. The K&N poorly seals to the hood allowing hot air from the engine compartment to enter the intake. HAI

 

That K&N "cold air" intake and others similar to it are nothing more than hot air intakes. By the way S&B does post their dyno data. Best air filtration period. S&B is very clear that "any" HP gains would occur at higher RPMs. With S&B it's not about HP with them. It's all about filtration. S&B filter specs blow away the competion by far. If I was ever to contemplate on replacing my factory CAI, (which is unlikely??) it would be for the S&B, otherwise you are wasting your money.IMHO

There are no Dyno charts posted for a tundra on any of these links. And they never will because it would show that their product doesn't do anything for a tundra. Do you realize that your tundra already has a CAI right from the factory?

 

So matluth are you running an S&B?

Simple pics will convince you?? That's what Playboy used to be for. A little reading and research doesn't hurt. Helps make your case better. just sayin. Re-read post. I thought my post was pretty clear. Apparently not. (I'm just being overly sarcastic, don't take offense).

 

The only reason I would upgrade to a S&B is for FILTRATION!!! S&B makes filtration products for the military in very "challenging" environments. Do your home work. I'm busy enough helping with my grand kids homework. Please re-read my post. Anyone who buys an aftermarket "CAI" for HP gains is foolish. Unless you drive at 5000 RPM's all the time. Get real. IMHO.

Oh...I forgot some of the aftermarket CAIs sound cool...................Also there is is lot of non junk science info "out there" explaining why a wet filter (as in my current drop in K&N) is superior to a dry filter.

I hear you. My sarcastic comments sometimes don't go over too well. I forget how many times I've had to go back and re-read a post. A couple of guys here have bought the S&B. Maybe they can chime in. What's cool is the S&B is cheaper. A lot cheaper by $150 to $200 cheaper than many of the CAI brands mentioned here and it provides the best filtration. Not sure how the S&B sounds. Check out S&B's site. They show their filtration results against pretty much all the competition. I don't even think they bother with dyno tests. Just filtration comparisons. They even have pics of their test lab which no one else does. That's why I would most likely buy their product.

 

Did you notice any difference in performance or fuel mileage? If so, what were the most profound or perhaps disappointments?
