I know I may get some flack for this post, but I would like to turn on my DRL's. I have only had this truck a week and cannot figure out if I even have them. In the manual it says it was an option, however this truck has everything. I'm assuming it has the DRL's. How would I determine if it has them? I know in other trucks I had I pulled a fuse. Is that how they are disabled on this truck?

    Thanks!

digdug, if you can post a pic of headlights, that would be great. I have a 08, but I believe drls may have only came on the limited. If you have them they should automatically come on.

the drls are the orange lights in the headlights when you turn the truck on, also used as running/turn signals

EDIT: If you're truck isn't a limited, you don't have Auto Headlight/DRLs unless they're aftermarket.

Sorry swede78, they do not. The amber lights are just running lights, and are not the drls digdug is referring to. They only come on when you switch them on or run your headlights. As bigsapz said only came on limited. My definition of drls may be somewhat different than yours. I'm referring to leds as the drls which sit at bottom of headlights or in panel below headlight.

This is a very confusing subject. The amber lights that automatically come on (sometimes not) are the DRL's for USA. Canadian Tundras do not have the amber DRLs. The Canadian DRLs are the headlights. You have to have your headlights on at all times in Canada, by law. If you live in Canada and purchase a USA version Tundra, you have to lose the ambers and convert to headlight DRLs. I know this from driving in Canada up to AK fantasy land and back. Google other Tundra forums and you will find this to be true. Example: Or RTFM>>>> Read the f'ing manual. USA amber DRLs go off when headlights turn on.

Yeah Mat, when I see drls I think of led lights under headlights not the amber running lights. And my amber lights don't come on automatically unless I have the switch on or headlights on

My ambers come on automatically every morning. Headlights off. 99% of the time. Occasionally they don't. Rarely.

Pretty sure there is no switch for the amber DRLs. They rarely don't come on in the morning when I start my truck up. They will go off when headlights are turned on.

Ok I'm confused. Hahaha! Are the Amber running lights considered the drls.

YES. They come on automatically most of the time. Every freaking morning. I read a thread, on another forum thank God, where one genius said "Just remove the bulbs, that way they won't be on all the time". Ahhhhh.... they are also the emergency flashers and turn signals. No bulbs , no turn signals. Sheesh

I'm trying to figure out what digdug the member who posted the question is referring to. When I see or read drls I'm thinking leds as I just recently posted. We need more input on this, not insulting your intelligence just more opinions.

Damn ... I step away for a couple of days and this thread took off. I'm sorry to confuse everyone. Yes, I am referring to the daytime running lights (DRL's), perhaps that isn't the right terminology but it's what I'm used to. I do have a Limited so I am assuming from reading this I should have them. However, when I am set on Auto, they do not come on (not even in the morning matluth, lol). When I turn the dial to the little "dot" they come on, but so do the rear taillights so I am assuming that setting is parking lights? Thanks to everyone for chiming in!!

I appologize ron23 .. stepped away for a couple of days. I am referring to the amber lights, stock, that are adjacent to the headlights. I am wondering if those are supposed to come on automatically .... when I turn the light dial to the "dot" they do come on, but so do the taillights which would tell me that is the parking light setting. I'm wondering if there is a way that the amber lights come on automatically without the taillights coming on. The directions say it should happen if set on auto but that doesn't work on mine for some reason ... thanks for helping me try and get to the bottom of it though.

@digdug I wonder if yours weren't disabled by a previous owner.

@ron23 That picture you posted is aftermarket.

@matluth If the parking brake is set when the truck is started, the DRLs won't come on until it's released. You may have a wonky switch or other voodoo going on.

@matluth posted a link to how to disable them, though I haven't read it. You may need to look into it to see if that's what was done.

I'm probably guilty of RTFM. "read the f'ing manual" too. Told everybody DRLs can be confusing.
