There are other ways...think of all the others that come out with no one...they can go to halfway house with sponsers to watch them.

Just because they are family doesn't mean they are family. I have had friends and strangers treat me better than family has. You don't get a say in who you're related too. Sounds like your wife is all for family but is blind to the fact that her brother will never change. And the fact that she didn't talk to you about it is quite disrespectful to you as well.

People don't change unless they want to. And he is already wanting to hang with old friends. That's not a good sign. Lay down ground rules now or it's only gonna get worse. Good luck. I don't envy you one bit.

It's hard...but even if family they got to be let go. Hurt like hell but I am glad I don't have my mom in my life anymore. Stress and drama are gone.

If it were me, I would just pick up extra shifts and stay at a company provided hotel if you can. No way in hell that would fly with me; despite his/her background.

The best rehab I've seen in my own anecdotal experience (uncles locked up for years as frequent flyers) was when they left their old circles of association... put states between them in one case, the other it was just city's. If you want a new life you have to cut ties with the old one. If you cant do that, then you really don't want a change.

Sounds mostly like preaching to the choir though. This is a marital issue, and when it comes to in laws I've found they are not easily resolved. As other's have suggested you need to have a calm conversation with your wife and the both of you need to agree on ground rules... when to call the cops/PO. what are BIL's rules while living under the roof you both have agreed to provide for him. Term limits - duration.
After you two work it out, make sure to lay down the expectations to BIL. Gotta get everyone on the same page.

Given you're work situation (traveling for days on end) I'd be very concerned for your wife. If his old buddies decide it looks like you have nice stuff and it should be theirs and shes home alone..... sounds like a recipe for disaster. Not trying to cause unnecessary concern, but definitely worth bringing up to your wife.

Benefit of the doubt... I think I'd want to give him the opportunity to change. But that comes at the cost of "trust but verify." if you cant follow the rules, you're out. I want to help you out, but if you arent willing to help yourself, there's nothing more I can do.

Good afternoon Mike! Do anything fun this weekend?

I did some yard work - had plants installed along our back fence for future screening + mowing and edging. Earned a little sunburn with it, but not too bad.
Got my 2.5 yo pretty much potty trained in a weekend. He still doesnt quite have #2 down, but that takes a little longer usually (less opportunities for training). bladder control and knowing that "gotta pee feeling" is mostly down, so that's awesome! One less kid in diapers! ... still poops in his undewear, so that's shitty...

Went to a concert and had a BLAST last night.. payed for it a little this morning, but not too bad - totally worth it!

Well Adam, this is a tough spot to be in.

I would have a serious talk with my wife.

I have family that is not welcome at my house as well, and it just so happens to be my brother. We are getting better at our relationship, but it will never be the same again. Sucks, we were the best of friends.

Point is, your wife has to choose between you and her brother just like I did. Some lines you don’t cross, and that sir, is one of them.

FYI, don’t move out of your own home. That is a bad financial decision on your part, and a really bad legal desission as well.
