Wouldn't that have fallen under the OEm 3/36 warranty?
I went 7/100k for $1200 and negotiated 5k interval services into final price since they wouldn't come off the price as much as I wanted.

Yes it was covered. That’s what we’re talking about. Out of warranty that would have been that cost.

Jerry was at $1,945 for the 10yr/100k mile warranty, $0 deductible. Very nice guy, sitting tight for now.

Wow. That’s higher than I expected. There was also one on the east coast that competed with Jerry, can’t recall the name of the dealer off hand. I will try to look it up

jerry was the poster child for getting smacked by corporate I think back in feb-2015/16. he was one of the reasons you can no longer buy over state lines over the phone.

new rules mandated you had to physically be at the dealer to sign the paperwork or have a valid physical street address within the same state of the dealer selling the Toyota ext. warranty.

posting his info and pricing in online forums was his downfall instead of via PM's.

I remember getting a great deal before the crack down on a T3 warranty for like $1150, now I avg around 1350 for the same deal but with a state dealer I have bought several from since then.

So what if I bought a Toyota from a dealer multiple states away and took delivery of said truck already? Now I can’t buy a warranty from them?

the dealer fills in the paperwork and sends it into Toyota financial services. if the dealer address and where they mail the contract to are not in the same state, they wont issue one.

even the guy up in the NE of the country has to follow the same rules.

but there are ways around the issue. if you have a friend in the same state, they can mail it to him and he can forward it to you.

    or

you go back to the dealer and sign the paperwork and pick it up from them.

its the dealers doing the massive markups that killed the guys that were doing volume sells at a marginal profit instead of gouging people for 200% markup at times.

None of this is in anyway true. 7 months ago I bought from a dealer in Michigan. I am in Colorado. Not only did I talk to the lady over the phone but Toyota sent my paperwork within two weeks.
The lady told me those rumors are total bull shit...

I have a feeling those rumors came from some butt hurt finance guy trying to get a sale.
@Silv333, you can buy the warranty as long as u are in the 3 year 36k.
Mechanicsville Toyota and Mcgeorge Toyota (both in VA) may be another spot to look.

NO, it’s been TALKED about. Post the documents if they exist. Official Toyota documents, not some nonsense from a member.

I asked for an official Toyota letter. You did not provide one. You provided some email from a finance guy. Now you are calling me names for telling you your comments are completely untrue. Which they are as I am proof that they are able to be sold across state lines.

Ego? There’s no ego involved with squashing a rumor. It’s simply stating the facts.

You wanted proof, I gave you proof from one of the major internet sellers. So you are saying troy was lying. Him along with Jerry, and Toby were shutdown from selling ext. Warranties over the internet by Toyota.

I bought one from Jerry and the next time I tried he gave me that same line from Toyota corporate. Your point of view is not gospel for everyone that sells warranties.

It’s not a point of view my friend. I just purchased one across state lines. Anyway, whatever. I’m not going to continue going around and around with you. If anyone would like contact info to the dealership I purchased from PM and I’ll be happy to share. I shopped around and they were the cheapest beating a dealership in my state by 100 bucks. Transaction was smooth. 8/100,000 for just over 1100 bucks.

Chill out guys. There have been some dealers thrown out there to try. Coulda been Toyota did do that, then realized they were not getting nearly as many warranties so they opened it up again. Two sides to every story, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Did you call him? How did it go?

I drove home my new 2018 tundra limited 4x4 2 days ago. After reading the entries about the extended warranties on this forum, I felt majorly screwed. I’m not going to embarrass myself by telling you how much I paid. I researched the truck like crazy and got a great deal on the truck going through Costco, but the extended warranties at the dealership, not so much.

I called Toyota Service and my truck isn’t in their system yet. But I learned that I have 30 days to cancel, so I’ll be back on the phone next Monday to see whether my truck is in their system. And once it’s cancelled, I’ll give Terry Johnson a call as well.

If you get a quote from Terry, bring it in to your dealer and give them an opportunity to at least match it. Likely they won’t....but you can toss them a bone.

Hoping my dealer I bought from will do the right thing and hook me up since my brand new truck has been in the shop longer than I have owned it.

Nice idea, but I don’t want to get Jerry in potential trouble and I’m not sure I could keep my calm with the “finance manager” who screwed me. Sometimes I’m not a very nice old lady.
