I open carry all the time, I prefer beating a motherfucker with my fists but keep the gun concealed. No way I will let a criminal/badguy out easy with a bullet unless it’s a firefight, they deserve a hard elbow to the throat or broken bones unable to walk or talk anymore.

I greatly prefer to conceal, you get much less attention that way. Last thing you want to broadcast is that you are carrying. With that said, if I am in the back-country I'll through on my positive retention Blackhawk SERPA holster with tactical belt. The rest of the time I have my Stealthgear Ventecore on (i.e. the conceal IWB holster)

Yep, that be the one. Love me some XDm series weapons. On my short list....

Looks like you had a horrific boating accident as well with the missing firearm.

Since we're talking about concealed carry a bit here, I figured I'd list my preferences.

In the warmer months or if something about my wardrobe makes carrying concealed difficult, I carry my Ruger LCP in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. This is the gun I carry most. Yes, .380 is not ideal, but it's just so damn convenient. Other times, I'll carry my Smith and Wesson M&P Shield in .45 in a Stealth Gear Ventcore holster in the 5 o'clock position. I also have a Glock 19 that I will rarely carry in a Tier 1 Concealed Agis holster AIWB. I do tend to shy away from this carry position though, as a bad reholster can literally kill you. And finally, if I'm feeling extra spicy during the winter months, I'll carry my Ruger SR1911 Commander in an outside the wasteband pancake holster at the 3 o'clock position, usually under a sweatshirt and winter jacket.

I've honestly never understood why people open carry. It just draws unneeded negative attention where you're basically begging for someone to freak out and call police and/or make a scene. Also, I'd think it'd just make you a target as well if you ever did come across a shooter. I know it's legal in a lot of places, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. I prefer "out of sight, out of mind"--nobody needs to know whether I'm carrying a gun or not.

Plus, most of the people that open carry are nerds like these kids just trying to draw attention so they can recite all their talking points.

I don’t get that. We trust you to defend this nation, but don’t trust you to carry a gun on base. Now in your case I can see why not in a jail, but the rest doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed. But i can see the flip side too from an MP perspective. But why can't i carry until i get to my office and secure it and only get it back out when i go to leave base?

CCL (Concealed Carry Licence) got changed to LTC (Licence To Carry) in 1/2016 :D

Personally, I think we'd all be safer if TRAINED individuals carried OWB everywhere. Is a criminal likely to start opening fire on a crowd if half of the people are visibly armed? Out side of a few SUPER rare cases, I seriously doubt it. A proper holster should be required.

Unfortunately, as many here have indicated, guns are socially a taboo and it draws unwanted attention. So with that in mind I only carry IWB unless hunting or some other remote activities.

Some of this stuff gets a little silly...

My BIL was burned badly while camping. He was lifeflighted to an army base that had the best burn unit in the area. My other BIL (former marine) and I went to visit him. He brought his gun. When signing in at the guest offices he told the clerk he had is gun in the car. The clerk kindly told us that we had to drive AROUND the base to the other side (couldnt drive through it with the firearm) and check it in at the armory. Then, we had the pleasure of driving back to get our passes at the guest office and drive on to the burn unit. This is Texas. People carry guns. You couldnt have a set of lock boxes at the guest office for people to check in their firearms?

Seemed like a joke, but then again maybe they were trying to discourage people from bringing firearms onto the base? betcha he wouldnt have had he known he'd have to drive around for 45 minutes to get his gun checked in....
