heading to telluride /Durango Colorado area, any off road suggestions

    Probably best to ask locally when you get there. The locals are going to be the ones who know what's open vs. what's still snowed in. The Million Dollar Highway will probably be open, Wolf Creek Pass, Lizard Head Pass, but they're year round and paved.

    I grew up on a ranch in Durango. TJ posted some good ones but there are a ton of others. And a lot without names. Just get a good map, I suggest the National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps and pick a mountain and go. There's still too much snow up high just about everywhere in the high country north of town. If you've never been to Durango, don't miss the Narrow Gauge train up to Silverton.

    You have picked one of the best places to visit in CO. Enjoy. The 4th of July in Ouray is awesome. Sitting on Main Street and the fireworks look like they are coming down on top of you.

    If you wonder up to Colorado Springs, you can stop by hand have some beers.

    One more question for the Colorado home bodies, If I keep the stock Michelins on the tundra, will we have any issues on the back road trails. I do have enough sense to stay off the bad trails. Just the rocky terrain and the area in general is unknown to me. Around here its knee deep black sticky Mud that you have to fight. I have seen pics of the 4X4 tours using stock looking pickups with standard size tires. Any recommendation from past experience or comments about being a tourist is welcome.

    Do they charge?

    It is mind boggling to see what people go out in the winter. The blizzards of 07' really woke me up to how stupid people are. I was out for days pulling people out of the snow. I was making money hand over fist.

    There were several people in house coats, slippers, and no fuel in the ol' mini van going down to the local gas station for smokes with kids. All had no coats.
