Whew...another young guy dodged the "become a welder" bullet. :amen:

Congrats. I wish I had gone electrical or e&i instead of welding. Best of luck to you in your new career. :hattip:

You're well on your way there young man. Congratulations!!

Learn the trade, but learn the business side too, then strike out on your own when you think you're ready.

I friend of mine did this on the sheet rock side and ended up selling his business for $14m in 2006.

Work for yourself if you want to make the big money.

Little late, but for my first week i put in 54 hours in a 5 day week! Early morning to mid evening. As much work as it is, its not too much. I feel very comfortable working Mon-Fri, and all day at that!

54 hours in 5 days? PART TIMER!!!!! :D C'mon up to Alberta. We'll show you how to work! LOL.

JK. Seriously, good for you! Congrats on making it through the first week. You're farther ahead than 90% of the young guys we hire. Keep up the work ethic and you'll go far.

I know 54 hours isnt alot, in all honesty, but for going from 6hr shifts at HEB to 12 hour shifts in the real world, its pretty amazing to get a taste. And thank you!

12 hour shifts are nothing to sneeze at. Figure that the average guy your age is struggling to show up for 6 - 8 hours a day and you're doing great. All I'll recommend is trying to maintain work/life balance. If you get weekends off, you should be fine. It's when you start doing 12 hour days for weeks at a time with no days off or only 1 day off a week that you get burnt out real quick. Oh the stories I could tell...LOL.

Howdy Texan :) HEB treated me right and taught me 1)how to get to work on time and 2) that i DID NOT WANT to work in groceries my entire life. That said - I went into technology. Never dreamed of the life I would have...
I have seen SB Electric around Austin. If ever in town give me a shout - dinner on me.

Oh yeah of course, weekends are off, but if i ever do want the extra $$ or feel great, i can request to work that saturday. This is just preparation for a feel of the electrical industry, i plan on doing this for a while, then moving i to commercial to learn more, and better prepare for the oil field electrical. Thats the goal, to work in the oil field doing electrical work. Blessed to be able to start my journey so young and have a huge jump on the trade!

Holly SHIT - i worked at that store in 1983-84. You should see that intersection today - and yes, HEB is still there. It's called the "Y".
