Operation my buddies 2014 MGM Offroad

So as some may know a friend of mine was involved in a bad car accident 2 months ago courtesy of a drunk driver. There was a fatality...but his Lincoln Nav may have saved his life. He had many many injuries and is still in a wheelchair but damn is he resilient. Obviously he needed a new ride, and obviously he took one look at my truck and knew what he wanted. He ended up with a 14 tundra trd offroad sr5 in MGM (the second or 8th fastest color, not sure cuz its not blue). Anyway he wants to build it. Not a big build but he wants to make it his own. And well, he can't build it. That's where I come in. He wanted a tonneau, the bak revolver x2 was it based on what he wanted and my recommendation. And when he saw my pro grill, well how can he not get one? He's thinking outside the box with an all black Ebay pro grill and @Roman hood bulge. I like this idea for his truck since he has the black middle bumper and black mirrors. Should look good. I'll be installing everything this week for him. He has a spray in liner but for some reason his tailgate isn't done. I'll surprise him with a can of spray on and do it for him. I almost collected all the parts. Waiting on ebay grill. Then next week we are taking the tundras to the beach in Rhode island for a few days with our kids. Should be a good time. I'll follow up with pics.

He did get to drive his truck. Every injury is on his left side so he took it out. Showed him the tow/haul ass button. He's a happy man. I'm excited to have it done and custom to him. He's been a great friend for 20+ years. I'd do anything for him cuz hes like a brother to me. I can't do much for him but I'm really happy to help him out with this stuff

Anything that isn’t mgm will obviously slow him down..... thinking about peeling my wrap off and doing a half wrap with something bright and my mgm paint. It just looks so goooood.

What a day. Got the tonneau on and grill done. Had a lot of fun and was so good to see him so happy

 

So the original plan was full MGM surround and bulge. Then he wanted a black surround to match bumper center, so I ordered and ebay pro grill that said it was all black plastic. They also sell grills with gloss black surrounds. I ordered plain black and was sent gloss black. We tried it out and it just didn't look good. I recalled that pastidip looks very similar in color and texture to the Toyota bumper center, so i said let me try this and let me know what you think. Lucky for us he loved the dipped surround, near perfect match for the bumper center. It was looking great

 

I thought it looked good like that but he said hey why don't we dip the bulge and see how it looks, and I'll say he was right, on this truck with the dripped bulge and surround matching the bumper center...it looks great. Maybe better than with the MGM bulge. All MGM would have been nice but also very expensive. So at this point he's $169 for the ebay pro grill and 2 cans of plastidip into this project and he's sp happy. So I have an MGM bulge for sale, brand new from Roman. Not sure that I can return it now that I've test fit it. He does plan to dip the bumper ends in the future

 

For anyone wondering about these ebay trd pro grills...they are very nice. Pretty much OEM construction and quality. The fitment is really nice, not perfect but even with OEM after you take it off and on a few times its not perfect. The center portion is flat unpainted plastic, I kinda like it better than the semigloss OEM pro grill insert. The TOYOTA letters are all one piece and screw on from the back, nicer than the individual OEM letters. The color of the TOYOTA letters is gloss MGM or damn close. I'd recommend buying these grills for sure although I can't speak for any that are painted any particular color.

 

I asked him and he wheeled around his truck about 5 times looking at it and thinking. I said what decal would you want. He said all he could think if was a matte black hood center decal lol. I said anything you want full custom and you tell me you want something that's already available. He said he didn't know those were already made. One idea he did have was to have part of the hood decal peel off revealing TUNDRA in MGM. Kinda cool idea and very subtle. So as far as the custom decal, nothing going but he'll think about it lol

He was eyeing up my headlights today. So in thinking yes when he gets back to work again. For now its plastidip bumper and maybe badges.

 

True everyone knows the only trick fast enough to peel a decal would have to be blue
