Received 2018 Honeycomb grill, surround and bulge today. Fifteen minutes later, swap was complete. Couldn't have been easier, but there was one minor issue (gap between hood bulge and lower surround is larger than original grill.

    Before:
    IMG_3274.jpg

    After:
    IMG_3278(1).jpg

Excessive gap between bulge and lower surround:
    IMG_3282.jpg

Anyone else run into this problem? Initially, I changed the grills without changing the bulges as both looked to be the same. Upon noticing the increase in the gap, I changed the bulge also. No improvement. I considered putting the 2018 insert in the 2017 surround, but not sure that will change anything either. Thought maybe someone else might have been down this road already.

I did the swap a couple weeks ago. What emblem did you use?

The seller left the stock emblem on the grill. Looks like you have the same gap problem I have.

there are 2 rubber bumpers that the hood sorta rests on when you close your hood you can easily adjust them by hand just twist them either up or down and it should adjust the gap I had to do that when I changed my grille @drhaynes

Thanks. I looked at those and was under the impression they were bottomed out. I’ll take a closer look at them. Thanks again.

IMO the silver does not work. You should replace the surround as well as it would match better.

Did you purchase the whole grill assembly, or just the honeycomb insert? Or, is that not even an option?

Not an option unless you buy someone's used insert

I'm pretty sure that stock emblem is worth some good money. You can replace it with a landcruiser one that doesn't have sensors for cheap, if you can find a buyer looking for the expensive one

You can do this but run the risk of breaking some tabs and mounting points. It's a pain in the ass. May not be worth the effort to close that gap. But its possible

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to have the part number for the grill? I keep coming up with the 2014-17 part number. Also, do you know if the emblem on the 2014 will fit in the 2018 grill?

14 emblem will not fit an 18 grill. @Roman knows what emblem fits I think it's from a recent generation landcruiser

I bought the entire grill including surround and bulge. It is however possible to buy the insert only. Just a few screws and a bunch of tabs to unhook without breaking them. Most used grills will or should have emblem plate with grill as it will not fit on the grill it replaced. Literally took 15 minutes to change grill. Just have to keep watching for one to come available.

Just the insert and had the surround painted to match the body color. I like the look of this grill on my Tundra.

I just bought a new grille but the hole to insert the old logo is different (2017 to 2018)
    Any recommendations?

I am finishing painting my 2015 sr5 chrome bulge 202 black and I'll be putting my 2020 pro grill on. I cant seem to see this gap you guys are talking about. I noticed on the pro grill that the shape near the top where the screw points are is a bit different than my old sr5 one.

Hello sorry but after reading the posts I'm still just as confused. Can anyone tell me if a 2017 Tundra SR5 insert only can be swapped with an 18 honey comb insert only?

Yes I have done it. But you will need a emblem from a land cruiser, it is a direct fit, no modifications and another little piece.

@Roman can hook you up with everything you need. Plus they have free shipping right now. That will save you a good bit.

Yes, I'm pretty sure 2014 and up will all fit.

@Roman he will definitely know but probably won't reply until Monday.
