Yesterday my amp blew up when I got home. It quit working during my drive home from work. When I got home, I unplugged it and let it sit, once I plugged it back in and turned the truck to accessory mode, I was immediately greeted with crackles, pops, sparks and smoke from inside the amp lol not sure what happened, but its toast (literally). Now my truck smells like Cheech and Chong, Snoop Dogg and Bob Marley lit up something funky.

Sooooo I need a new one. any one familiar enough with audio equipment to point me in the right direction?

this was a pretty expensive amp, but I don't think it had enough power to begin with. but im no expert.

I need something that will let these subs bang. Prefer not to break the bank, but I know you get what you pay for. Didn't really wanna spend more money on audio equipment, but shit happens.

    I have 2 of these 10'' subs:

    http://ddaudio.com/products/subwoofers/redline-series/sl-2/

    400-600rms each

how many watts do I need? I guess itd be 2 channel?

I was thinking around 3000-4000 watts total, should be more than enough. I want to have at least 2000 rms on the amp to be safe.

I think maybe better off with a mono amp. I have always run a mono for 2 subs and run them perallel. But then again not to sure

That's a bummer. Sorry to hear that.

So you got 2 2ohm dvc sub's rated up to about 800 watts each? That's a lot of power at 2 ohms. Here are some well regarded, and proven budget friendly options. These are a few just off the top of my head so a few might be a little off.

A "Cab" 1600 will run about 2300 watts I think at .5 ohms. It can do .5 ohms safely all day but isn't technically rated for it.
Its about $250 and looks really nice.

Brutal Sounds has a great amp for $200 for a limited time. Its either 2000 or 2500 watts at 1 ohm. It Korean and made by Xenon. Top of the line amp build house.

The Skar rp something something 2000, at about $200.

    Soundqubed's 2200.

    Wolfram's c-2 @$200 I think is either 2000 watt or 2400 watt.

All of those are mono blocks (which is what you should consider first), and rated by the manufacturer for 1ohm loads. Some have been shown to run safely at .5 ohms too.

Then there's the Brazilian amps like Taramps, Sound Digital, Bandi(?) That are worth looking at.

Definitely pass on hifonics amps for the wattage you're looking for.

There is only a couple they make currently that will do rated advertised power.

Its terribly sad the direction they were sent in when MaxSonic bought them.

Edit: damn, that was a really nice amp you lost there. Its to bad, but it happens though.

That wiring diagram is incorrect. That is a .5 ohm load. Its in parallel.

For a 2 ohm load it would need to be wired in a series parallel configuration.

Edit: I take that back. I didn't see the series connections. My bad.

I bought a used RF Power series T-1500-1BD less than $400. I suggest finding a nice used one from a reputable seller. Tons of power for what you need and RF have always been BA.
