What are you guys using for Virus software? I just deleted Avast since is was taking up room, and I hear Windows Defender is just as good. Should I have another virus scanner or Windows defender enough?

I use bit defender free version, its low impact on resources and doesn't nag the shit out of me constantly.

Windows defender that comes with w10 should be sufficient. We all know which sites to stay away from to avoid viruses. (ie porno, torrent, etc) lol. Be a good boy and windows defender should have you covered.

I never install the free antivirus .too much bloatware comes with it and if you have an order computer, the startup processes are murder on your cpu and will make it crawl.

I pulled Avast off this morning, figured I would try Windows Defender. I am running Windows 10. A friend told me Defender is good enough.

As well with windows defender, it will always be running in some way.
I have Esset and really like it. However I was unable to completely disable windows defender which was a piss off and basically used cpu for no reason.
I was able to get around that by changing file names and what not but the program itself still runs....just doesnt do anything.

Windows defender works and is a pain to disable. May as well stick with it lol.

Macs in my IT experience are not very susceptable to viruses. It's either that or Mac people do not like to porn surf or bitorrent. :p

In all seriousness, the ratio of PC'S to Macs in this world is so great that people.who design viruses seek to harm the masses and not the particular few. That's why we hear and experince so little about Mac viruses. Just my opinion .

Most ISPs provide you a with a antivirus software for free check with your internet service provider, COX and AT&T provides full protection with McAffee I tried this personally and give you a great protection never had a virus problem in my windows virtual pc (I’m a Mac user but still have a windows virtual PC just in case) no antivirus in my Mac and never had a issue with viruses for the last 15 years

Norton is a great option :D but I just decided to stick with the free option provided with my AT&T service (COX offer the same option McAfee) if I’d have to buy one I’ll choose Norton.

Couple of years ago our business got hit with a very advance Trojan virus. It would jump from machine to machine and mutate to different files and names. The sniffers couldn't isolate it jumping through the network because the mutations were occurring during the jumps. We could see the jumps in he sniffers but just could not isolate it. After a considerable amount of time, one of us downloaded the free version of AVG out of desperation. We tried all the so called top brands including those mentioned above. However AVG was the only one that worked. It identified the new mutated version in minutes. Our company has used ABG since and has not been hit since.

I usually go with anti-virus software ;), but Webroot and ESET NOD32 both work well and don't use a lot of system resources. Plus you can get them dirt cheap on sale at Newegg or Fry's.
