TFL Taco Vs Tundra

I like that show.
I took my truck to the dealer for routine service and a recall yesterday. The work was going to take all day so I needed a rental. The lady asked if I wanted a Corolla, Prius, Camry or a Tacoma. I went for a Tacoma (2017). It's a nice truck. But a few things I didn't like about it. The transmission felt like a CVT. The engine felt a little weak and the seat wasn't comfortable even for a short drive. My wife said the same thing. I guess we are spoiled by the Tundra.

 

The reasons you stated above were the reason why I traded my Taco.

I strongly prefer the Tundra to the Taco, especially being 6'5". But I do admit the bed design is much better

 

Here is the picture of the whole bed. Storage compartment on the left and the tie down hooks on the floor by the tailgate are nice touch....

Surprised that the drag race was as close as it was.
Not surprised at how the turn radius was close. The commentator said that they both handled like a battleship, but to me,the Tundra seems pretty agile and nimble for a full size.

 

Definitely miss the storage features of my Tacoma.

 

I was not expecting those results for the drag race either.
Makes me think the Tacoma would beat the 4.6.

The size of the taco is what I really like about it for off-roading and exploring trails, the tundra is too wide. But.....if they put a V8 in the taco I would trade right now

 

Me too. I think the turning radius is quite good for a long 4x4 truck.

 

The Tacoma actually gets up and goes like hell once the RPM's get above 4K, but until then it's a complete pig.

 

Watch the Gen 2 Taco prices. People aren't too happy with the Gen 3 powerplant and prices and are starting to look at used gen 2 more and more. Was offered a premium for my sons low mileage Prerunner last week.

 

Man, Imlived the size of my gen3, 2016 Taco. It looked awesome, drove well and fit/finish/Tech was just enough for me. But even at 5’9” and 155lbs, the interior seating was so uncomfortable, I hated driving it. Anything over 2 hours in the truck just killed my hips. The high floor pan made you feel like you were in a sports car. I got in the tundra and lived it immediately and haven’t looked back.

 

I have a friend with a 2015 Taco. He wants to take the plunge and get a Tundra now that I have one. His Taco has similar mileage to the one I traded in (a 2016/Gen3) and they are offering him over $2000 more on the trade in. I think this is an ominous sign for the previously ironclad resale of the Tacoma.

 

I share your hope. People with Tundras tend to use them for towing, I can't imagine a truck with the low end grunt of a 4 cylinder is going to go over well for people hauling big trailers. Though I never dreamed Toyota would screw the Taco up so bad, so who knows.
Just imagine if Toyota puts the 3.5/6 speed from the Taco into the heavier 4Runner for the redesign. That ain't gonna be pretty.

Adding, underpowered, cramped, drives like a car and seat just dont feel right! The best I liked was the Dash readout, LED's and crawl mode!

 

I just sold my 17 Taco and got an 18 Tundra limited. I love this truck. The taco was cool but nothing like this. The engine transmission combo in the taco sucks bad.

 

There is absolutely no comparison between the 5.7 and the 3.5. That being said, the lower gearing in the MT version of the Taco makes it not have the gutless issues that the slush box models have.
