so I'm curious if I'm able to turn on only the orange lights in my headlights. I believe they are called parking lights, maybe. 90% of the tundras driving down the road have them on but I can't figure it. And I have an 18 with the LED headlights so it may not even have the option to do it?

I want to change out my yellow/orange lights that are on all day with clear/white ones. Hopefully it is not against the law or something. Good luck. No help for you. Peace. D

Your supposed to have atleast one orange light in headlight I believe. So the little one on the side should stay but you can change out the center one with a led switchback. I've seen them. Pretty pricey but look like good quality and pretty much would have 2 led headlights in each headlight. It's the blinker you can make led but it switches back to amber when u hit blinker. I think they wanted 140 for the set

I was looking to do this on my 18. spoke with ihacker on how to do it but haven't found the time to implement it. pretty easy, have to add a wire to the blinker socket and jump it to the parking light. This will give you an amber DRL (and still function as a blinker) but only when the parking lights are on. we briefly discussed a way to use the existing LED DRLs but it was quite a bit more involved. If you bought a switchback bulb, the DRL component would be white and when blinking it would be amber.

This was the message that @iHacker sent me (SEE BELOW)... I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here. One thing I noticed when looking at it is that the wires on the existing blinker plug are a little different that what he showed in the pics/example below, they occupy the 2nd and third slot (not the 1st and 3rd as shown), so I'm not sure if that matters or if it has to be repinned. Like I said I hadn't got around to doing the mod yet, but it's pretty high on my list. I'll try to take a pic of the blinker socket next time I'm in the hood.

To do this to need to add a jumper wire between parking lights (AKA side markers) this will activate your ambers in the turn signals but is going to be switched,

Originally your turn signal wires looks like this

And you have to add a jumper in the center like this

T-tap the jumper wire to purple wire in side markers and that’s it, whit this jumper you can use the switchbacks option if you buy a switchback bulb for example the VLED V6 Tritons

Funny, a lot of us installed 2018 LEDs and did the amber delete mod. I ran with them on (the way you want it) for a little while but realized it’s probably safer for oncoming to see one side flashing, so I deleted them like most. If you turn a signal on, would the opposing side turn off, or still stay on?

I always liked the amber DRL, was sort of a unique/defining feature on 2nd/3rd gens. You can ID a tundra from a mile off with those amber DRLs. I don't know for sure but the opposing side should stay lit, and the switched side would flash. I'll say this, the stock amber blinker on the 18's sucks goat ass. Every one should put in a bright LED, hard to see with the very bright white DRLs

Ideally I wish when I put on a turn signal, the LED DRL turned off on the side the amber is blinking. And, if I had running ambers, the opposing amber turned off. You’re right, gotta replace those weak stock ambers!

It might be against the law because some states require a yellow blinker on the front. As for the OP he is probably seeing trucks with the yellow DRLs that come on when you turn on the ignition on a Tundra. I had the option to turn them off in my Tacoma and did a lot because of the melting lenses. I did the xover mod on my retros on the Tundra. If I had not they would have burned orange all the time. Now they do only when the turn signal is turned on.

that's why switchbacks exist probably, because most states require an amber blinker.

According to an officer I asked about this (Texas), the amber blinker is required by law. He did say it’s almost never enforced, unless they are already pulling you over, or want a reason to do so. He said he will put it down as a warning if he already has you stopped, but won’t stop someone for just that reason. The only time he’d actually ticketed someone for it was when they were being an a-hole.

Inspection places are supposed to turn you down for it though.
