Replacing stock 6x9 with....

Any experiences with replacing factory 6x9 with a better 6x9?
Geek Squad dude states better to replace factory and stay away from components and it the 6.5.
Got me all confused now.

I would stay away from Geek Squad unless he really knows Tundras. Might want to ask how many Tundra installs he has done. I have Infinity components and very happy with them. I have not upgraded the amp yet. I was going to do the amp first but thought I would switch the order and do the speakers first. The tweeters make a big difference. You might get more bass out of the 6x9s.

Probably because they don't sell speaker adapters and his computer tells him they don't fit. I think the only qualifying question those guys are asked when hired is, "Have you ever sat in a car and listened to music? Good, you're hired!"

The stock 6x9 aren't exactly the same as regular aftermarket 6x9. Generally speaking, using a 6.5 with an adapter bracket is the correct approach

What happened to the 6 x 9? Back in day, in the 80's (Dating myself) the 6 x 9's were BOSS. They were the "go to" or before subs it seemed. I remember the Pioneer's 6906 (3 way) or 6907 (4 way) with an amp was all you needed. LOL Kenwood and Jenson had some that were ok, probably others.

Are the 6 x 9 not ever a "go to" anymore?

 

Don't forget the Clarion 100-EQB-2 5 Band Graphic Equalizer. In my late 70's HS circles you weren't chit if you weren't running the Clarion.

 

Probably saw a few, had a 4 channel Pioneer EQ that hung at the bottom of dash. was really cool.... lol

 

So what's a good brand of door speakers to run without breaking the bank, currently all stock, truck came with sub box 2 Rockford Fosgate R2 10" sealed box with Massive Audio Nano N2 amp, like to keep HU stock, any recommendations???

 

the gooseneck eq were the coolest.

 

I've done extensive research on 6x9's and ended up going with the AudioFrog GS690's in the front doors. My entire system is being installed and should be done by tomorrow or Monday. From everything i've read they blow the competition out of the water at that price point.

 

Geek Squad “F’ed” up my other Tundra. I had to take it to a real professional audio shop to fix the mess of hat they made. It is better to go to a stand alone professional audio shop for all your audio needs. They usually have people there that Install many different audio components on many different vehicles. So, they have much better experience and skill levels than the Best Buy Geek Squad people. Do your homework and find the best Installers in your area to do the job.

One thing to note! One you go away from factory speakers on your door(s), they will have to modify the doors by cutting away the area that housed the original factory speakers, so it is important to get it done right the first time.

 

from what i've heard audiofrog makes some really good stuff.

what? all I had to do was add adapters. Adapter utilized the existing holes. I second the post on the Infinity Kappas

 

I had the cheaper infinity components. I've just blown the passenger door speaker. I'm replacing it with the Infinity Kappa Component. It is a more extensive build when coupled with amps but well worth it for the sound. 6.5" are nice and all but the 6x9" will carry more quality sound. Also consider dyno matting the doors.

 

I've had my audiofrogs for a while now and can tell you I am VERY happy with them.

 

I'll have to check out the Audiofrogs. This is the first I've heard of them.

I was thinking about going with focal but no one here in arkansas has herd of them. I was worried they wouldn't fit. I hear they're the tits tho. I wish I could hear them in action.

 

I went with 6X9 Alpine components in the front and 6.5 components in the rear. Sounds great. Personally, I'd get components.

 

I like that build Rex. That tail gate is super sweet. Simple yet modded enough for folks to know that its custom. I really like that sway bar. Did you notice a big difference on rigidity of the truck during turns. You made that high mile truck new new again.

6x9's ruled the 80's with that eq!!! Hair bands 4-lifedee Snyder made those 6x9's scream
