I only drive 300 miles per month but I want the 46 gallon TransferFlow. Bad idea?

I only drive 300 miles per month but I want the 46 gallon TransferFlow because I like the idea of rarely having to go to the gas station, having a lot of gas on hand for emergencies, etc.

Is this a bad idea? Do I risk the gas getting stale and damaging my engine??

If you’re really worried you could just put some quality fuel stabilizer in with it. If you’ve got the money to spend and your state allows it. I say go for it.

I let my Nissan sit for six or so months. Started it up and drove it around just fine. If you have the money for that giant tank, knock yourself out. I wish they made a bigger tank for the first gens.

I like that it doesn't tend to absorb moisture from the atmosphere, so I always put it in my vehicles that sit for extended periods. An example would be my 70 El Camino that has a vented gas tank. Honestly, I don't think that's probably an issue with the modern EVAP systems. If you're driving 300 miles a month, and even with a 46 gal tank, you're likely burning it all before it could "go bad", even if you're topping up "along the way".

I’m putting about the same miles on as you. My 2015 just turned over 10,000 miles. The 46 gallon transfer flow tank is one of my best mods. Worth every penny.

What's your refueling strategy like? Refuel at half? Refuel at empty? I bet with the 46 gallon + infrequent driving, you pretty much never go to the gas station??

I usually go all the way to empty. Once i went 80m after the light came on. l was clenched so tight i left a permanent ridge in the middle of my seat. You’re better off keeping it full though, so there’s less room for condensation. It’s months between filling up.

And you've had no problems with fuel pump or anything else, always burning older fuel?

No problems with anything. I did put some Stabil in for a while 2016-2017,but decided it wasn’t really necessary

I agree. If you’re out in the middle of no where or wheel in the desert... maybe. But not just so you can fill up every couple of months. I think that money could be spent wiser.

Did you upgrade the tank yourself? I reached out to my local Toyota Dealer about upgrading from the 26 gal tank to a larger one and they were like "We've never heard of this, it's never been done, it would cost you $4500 in parts alone, blah blah blah".. needless to say, I wasn't expecting that kind of an answer!

Are you taking long trips? like @joonbug said - why waste money on this when theres so many other things you could get for your truck instead

@gosolo is your truck just parked in the garage a majority of the time? I'm interested in what people are doing with trucks that are practically stored until needed on a trip (i.e. keeping truck sealed, covered, etc.) I now am driving a company truck around a majority of the time and have the tundra parked except for camping trips.

First off, if you got stuck with the stoopid 26g tank it’s not a waste. In fact it’s really a waste to continue to live with that. Second, what rule says buying one mod keeps me from buying others. I have every mod on my truck that I want.

Yes it stays garaged 100%. I have it on a battery tender so it won’t go dead. It’s still got a little “new truck” smell (VOC’s)
