I own a 2005 tundra DC 4x4. Its got 225000 miles on it, only thing i've done is replace the water pump and timing belt last summer. Never had a problem in 3 years. Sitting in my driveway is a 2011 tacoma trd sport 4x4 with 130000 miles on it in pristine condition waiting on me to buy it. My buddy owns a car dealership and I kinda got the itch. The ride it tighter than the tundra, of course its newer and cleaner with more bells and whistles. But still i wonder if its worth trading and will i suffer massive dissapointment. If anyone out there has been down this road i'd like to know your opinion.

Welcome from Colorado. Are you ok losing the space you have in the Tundra vs the taco? And do you have the 5.7L engine in the Tundra where you are also willing to downgrade?

The room doesn't bother me as much as the roll down back window, which sounds crazy. I have the 4.7 engine.

Welcome. Long time ago I went form a T100 to a Taco. I only kept the Taco a short time (too small and slow) before going back to another T100. I'd say don't do it. If you need shinier, newer, get a newer Tundra. This'll help preserve your friendship too.... I'm guessing.

If you got the itch, scratch it with a 07+ tundra with the 5.7. you will really love that.

Welcome from CO. Tough call. That 4.7L V8 is nice but that gen Taco V6, although less HP, doesn't suck. That said... Have your buddy find you a decent 2nd gen Tundra. Problem solved.

Welcome from CO. You’ll miss the room, and V8. Tacoma won’t have much better mileage either. As @Grey Wolf suggested, look for a newer one (2nd gen)

I appreciate y'alls opinions. I believe i'm going to pass of the taco. Think I will just practice a little patience and look for a second gen tunra. The room and the back window are hard to part with.

I love my 1st Gen Tundra. If yours is paid for, just outright get a 2nd gen, and keep your 1st gen!

Welcome from Arizona. Sometimes it helps to look at the total cost of the new vehicle when trying to decide if I really want that new vehicle.

Welcome! As a former Tacoma owner, the Taco drinks gas at the same rate as a Tundra. If you're okay with that, the Taco is a great little truck.

Well I reconsidered. I’m going with the taco. At the price I’m getting it I can resale if I don’t like it and make some money to put towards a newer tundra.

Welcome. I hope the new truck works out for you. If not, trade it in for a 2nd or 3rd gen tundra, you won't regret that.
