So I removed my grill to finish blacking my truck out. I have a bug deflector on the front of my truck, which uses a 3m weather strip that was stuck to the grill. Naturally I removed it and grabbed the eraser wheel to remove the sticker residue. I started doing it and the chrome bubbled like crazy. So, I erased wheeled a large section. Once it bubbled the chrome peels off like a banana. Then just a quick sand I’ll be left with black plastic. I’ll update once I finish

So you think that the heat generated by the eraser wheel caused that?

I wonder if this is what paint shops will do if you take it in to have the grille color matched.

I sure do think it’s the heat that’s doing it. I did try just using a heat gun to try and it didn’t do anything. Must just be the correct temperature to use the Wheel.

You know they have a trick. I think they have a chemical trick though... just like a chrome shop would remove chrome off something for a guy.

This is pretty quick. I’ve gotten about 95% removed after a half hour. Just the very top strip left to do.

I saw this and it got me thinking. Has anyone tried stripping the chrome and repainting it themselves?

I do plan on painting mine. Actually I’ll just be priming it for now. I’m waiting to color match it with raptor liner when I do my truck.

Here it is currently. The smaller strips are really taking some time...

I was actually thinking I’ll see how it looks while I was removing chrome. Good call haha.
