I always fill up my tank when it's half empty. Anyone else? Is this safe?

I always had late 90s Chevrolet 350 Vortex (two Z71 RCSB's and three 2dr Tahoes) I never went below a 1/4 tank because you risked the pump not being submerged and burning up. I once let a 2dr Tahoe basically run out of gas and guess what, fuel pump went out.

Doubt that would be the case in models nowadays, but I do remember hearing stuff like that back then.

I try to fill once per week or so. Between half an 1/4 full usually. Costco is less than 5 miles away, so I usually pass it at least once a week. Road trips are obviously an exception. As is laziness. :)

I’ve got the 38 gallon. The gas light popped on as I was pulling up to the pump. She drank 30 gallons. 8 gallon reserve...

I can’t stand looking at the final price when filling from empty. So yea, I always fill up from half.

Same reason I fill mines no less than half tank. Most gas stations in ca either have a 25 gallon max or $75 per fill up. So annoying.

I would just do the 1/2 tank and just get used to spending what you do. if the gas prices ever go down, that will help a lot in the amount you spend at the pump. think the lowest I spent doing 1/2 tank was $38.....but then the gas prices go up .

right now, gas here is $2.77 x 15 gallons and its $41.55 .

I can fill up monday and be good til the following sunday and fill up at right around half or a needle width below half. On a long trip its the same mind set. Seems like it drinks from full to half and chugs from half to a quarter. When i use our highlander it seems like the range is the same at around 200 ish miles per tank the tundra gives me the same to a half tank aka modified empty.

I usually go down to the 3/4 mark. Although since I just bought my tundra I’ve been letting the light come on and filling to see how the truck handles it. Once I’m comfortable with that I’ll prolly start doing the 3/4. Then usually every few months I would lwt mine go down to e. In the tundra with the light on and 0 miles to empty on it takes about 31gallons and cost about 97-103$ in New York (at least where I’m at I’m sure the city inflates it’s price much more) to fill.

Personally, never. I like having the bigger tank so I can go further between fill-ups. I try to run it as close to "0" on miles to empty as possible every time.

I always think about the weight of the gas and how it might relate to MPGs. The lighter the truck, the better MPGs so when i fill up, the MPG gods are yelling at me. I really don't know how much difference 10 gallons of gas is versus 35 gallons of gas as far as weight goes and how that impacts MPGs but it crosses my mind whenever I fill up.

I usually fill up on the weekend or when it goes below the 100 mile range. For me it’s really more about filling up when it’s convenient so that I’m not forced to when I’m in a hurry, its raining, or whatever........

I do the same because getting caught up in Atlanta traffic with less than 1/2 tank is not a wise thing to do.

Summer time I let get to 3/4 empty. Winter it never gets below 1/2. Why? I don't know to be honest, just something we always did.

This... I will let it run down to below 1/4 or less. I know the bill is a big one but what can you do. I try to link my Fred Meyer discount build up a bit before I do a fill up, otherwise I hit Costco.

A waste of time in my book. I like the big tank because I do not have to stop as often to get gas. Main reason I pulled the trigger on a Tundra when I did. Some of the lakes I fish I would not be able to make a round trip in the Tacoma without stopping for gas. I usually fill up somewhere between 1/4 and the light coming on.

1/2 - 1/4. Never let it get below a 1/4. I know it will still go I know the pump is technically still submerged. But, I don't like going that low. My fiance drives a Camry. It has a distance to empty meter. She ignores it. I yell. It's so frustrating. Lose/lose situation.
