What do owners of the 2018 Tundras think about Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ? Do you like it or dislike it?

I've tried searching but come up with some conflicting information: Is it possible for these features to be turned off permanently (ie, don't have to press a button or set a setting every time I go on a trip)??

I was looking at maybe getting my wife a new Sequoia. When I told her I could not get it without the TSS, she told me " No thanks I'll keep the 2007".

Works great of my wife’s car, but the PCS on my truck doesn’t work at all and the dealer said they don’t expect it to until they get a software update.

After having my PCS go out then reading about everyone else with the same issue, I can do without. Mine is completely gone from my truck. No settings or anything anymore, just disappeared. Great system.

I don't even notice it's there. I haven't got a clue if it works or not. I had one alarm after I first got it that told me to brake when I didn't need to. But after that it hasn't' happened.

It's not like it's some really invasive AI that takes over your drive and controls you life.
At least that is what it told me to tell you.

I forgot to say, I do know if I cross over the line because its good about telling me that. Unless I push the button to turn it off.

I like it now that it works properly. I had issues with it (the PCS) until the latest software update.
I have had the brake alert go on a couple times when there was no reason.

How do software updates work? Do you get it done at the dealership?

I don't know what all the complaining is about. The auto cruise control is great if you drive on freeways in the city.

I love the auto cruise too. I think most of the complaints come from the failure of the TSS.

I'm still trying to figure out what all the new tech on my truck does, but is this that software that thinks you are about to get into a collision and flashes "BRAKE!" in red on the display? That has popped up for me a few times, once when an oncoming truck swerved into my lane, the other when I was approaching a stopped car that was going to turn and I didn't slow down because I was gambling the guy would turn. The other time it did it for no reason that I could see and I told it to be quiet.

I get the beeping sensors when I'm pulling into a tight parking spot, but I can ignore those.

Trying to figure it out. PCS started flashing on/off unavailable for a few days. Then it stopped the other day. I went in the settings to turn it off so I wouldn’t see the flashing and it is gone. It hasn’t alerted me in a couple days either on some close calls from being cut off. Under “meter settings” you can go turn it off if needed. It just disappeared from that settings menu. Someone commented that it’s probably an ECU issue or a loose cable. We’ll see on Tuesday when I bring it in.

Love it on my ‘18 tacoma.

Simply pressing the TC button (while stopped) disables PCS as well as VSC and TC...

Does it persist that setting even after turning off the truck, then turning back on? Or do you have to press that button every trip?

I'm loving TSS. The lane stray reminders are a tiny bit obnoxious, but I don't mind them so much thinking there may be a day when they save me. I really enjoy the adaptive cruise control on the busy interstates in Denver. I've not used the auto-brights yet, but I like the idea of not having to switch brights off and on when night driving outside of the city.

Honestly I’m disappointed in the lack of sensitivity. However with that said I use it every day on my 180 commute. It definitely works when it works most of the time. I’ve only had it malfunction during rain. 1st world problems getting upset when a comfort feature on your truck isn’t working perfectly how you think it should.

Hopefully the new updates have some sort of positive effect on the system.

I like the adaptive cruise control. I don't care about the other stuff. I am not having any issues with it, so I feel lucky. The cruise control thing is the shit.

I did a beach trip recently and got to try out all the features. The adaptive cruise is by far the best part of TSS from what I have experienced. It did a great job keeping distance from the car in front and even did great with going up hill and down, where other cruise controls seem to suffer. The lane departure keeps you focused on the road a bit more and I do like the parking sensors for tight spots in parking garages. The auto dimming worked perfectly as well.

One area of concern was when a car was turning off the highway and had slowed pretty quickly but was still making a quick turn off the roadway and the TSS braked fairly hard when it really didn't need too. If I would have had someone on my tail they could have tagged me from the rear if they were not paying much attention. It slowed down way too much for someone making a turn off the highway.

So far that was the only flaw I have noticed in the TSS system. I do think as they continue to make improvements it will only get better.

I've had the "Brake" Flash a couple of times when I'm the only one on the road. I'm taking it to the dealer for the first 5k service and they will probably flash the ECU and hopefully that will fix it.

I love the cruise control, helps my mpg’s too, since I drive it like I stole it around town. The collision system on my he other hand I’m not a fan of, today I drove through some rain ( normal sprinkle) not a dawn poor and the system was saying on my dash it was off. Weather cleared up and system came back on line.

If you change the following distance for the radar, the panic brake thing is drastically reduced. I change mine to the closest distance and the stupid panic brake isn't nearly as bad, and if my truck does needlessly do it, I just lay into the gas and that cancels it out.

Patriots suck by the way. :crapstorm::puke:

anybody ever follow our vehicles when TSS is slowing us down? I wonder if it always applies the brake lights, or if sometimes when it downshifts only, that it doesn't.
